Senior Product Manager Open Banking – Tribe Payments

Apply now

At ING, we’re on a mission to empower people and businesses to stay a step ahead in life and in business. We do that by combining the scale and trust of a leading bank with a product‑led, tech‑driven way of working. Our Orange Code guides how we deliver, taking ownership, helping others be successful, and always doing the right thing for customers and society.

Within ING Netherlands, Tribe Payments designs, builds and runs the experiences that move money for our customers securely and instantly. The tribe brings together product, tech, risk and operations across multiple areas to create seamless end‑to‑end journeys.

Today, ING’s Open Banking squad manages the Bookkeeping Link, a solution that connects our business customers’ transaction data directly to their accounting packages. This integration streamlines financial administration, reduces manual work, and helps customers keep their books up to date with ease. While Bookkeeping Link is a strong foundation, our ambition goes much further: we’re looking to evolve this product into a more comprehensive platform.

This is where you come in: lead the change in turning Open Banking into powerful daily experiences for entrepreneurs and SMEs.

Your role & work environment

You’ll be the Product Manager for the Open Banking squad within Tribe Payments, part of ING Business Banking in the Netherlands. Your mission is to scale today’s Open Banking value and shape tomorrow’s financial proposition for our Business Banking customers.

You’ll work end‑to‑end with Engineers, Designers, Data Analysts, Risk, and Commercial colleagues to build propositions that customers love and can depend on. Expect real ownership in delivering the Open Banking roadmap, working within clear strategic priorities and collaborating across disciplines to turn vision into digital products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the product strategy for Open Banking within Tribe Payments. Balance discovery with delivery to create short‑term wins and long‑term differentiation.
  • Build and scale best‑in‑class API‑led experiences with partners and platforms. Support in choosing the right “build‑buy‑partner” model, analyse value and make integration choices that scale.
  • Turn customer problems and commercial opportunities into crisp product requirements and non‑functional needs. Co‑create with engineering on API design, data flows and integration with payments rails and core banking systems.
  • Validate demand through research and experimentation, size opportunities, and build business cases that link product outcomes to portfolio growth.
  • Embed risk controls, data privacy, and operational resilience in the backlog. Align with regulatory frameworks such as PSD2/PSD3 and PSR and ING’s risk appetite.
  • Define success metrics from discovery through scale (acquisition, fee income, NPS, operational KPIs). Create transparent reporting and make data-based trade‑offs.
  • Model ING’s Orange Code, coach across the squad, and raise the bar on product craft and stakeholder engagement across Tech, Risk, and Commercial.

We’re looking for a rare blend of technical depth and commercial acumen. You may have grown up on either side: product/engineering or product/commercial but you’re fluent in both.

Must‑haves

  • 8+ years of proven Product Manager / Product Owner experience shipping digital products at scale in Payments, Open Banking, fintech or PSP environments.
  • Strong technical fluency in APIs, payments, integrations, and how core banking and payment systems work end‑to‑end. Experience with IT change and bigger IT programs.
  • Discovery & research craft in turning qualitative/quantitative insights into clear problem statements, experiments, and roadmaps. Comfort with data analysis and working closely with data analysts.
  • Commercial skills around market analysis, pricing/packaging, business case creation. Ability to articulate P&L impact and portfolio strategy.
  • Risk mindset and familiarity with risk management and operating in regulated environments (e.g., PSD2/PSD3, PSR), translating requirements into product and technical controls.
  • Stakeholder leadership with excellent communication and influence across Tech, Risk, Legal, Compliance, Operations, Sales, and Partnerships.
  • Agile delivery with outcome‑driven planning, iterative delivery, and evidence‑based prioritisation.

Nice‑to‑haves

  • Experience with accounting/bookkeeping integrations or Business Financial Management tooling (e.g. invoice/expense automation, VAT workflows, cash‑flow forecasting).
  • Hands‑on experimentation (feature flags, A/B testing) and product analytics.
  • API product management (developer experience, documentation, SLAs, monetisation).
  • Familiarity with partner/vendor selection and onboarding in financial services.

You’ll love this role if you want to

  • Scale Open Banking into tangible value for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
  • Build with partners and platforms, using APIs as a product.
  • See your work matter, from strategy slide to a shipped feature that customers use every day.

We offer you;

  • A role with impact in a high‑visibility area of Business Banking.
  • A passionate, multidisciplinary squad and a culture that rewards initiative and ownership.
  • Learning budget, coaching, and broad growth opportunities across ING.
