Relationship Manager (Network Sector Coverage)

As part of the Network Sector Coverage team in ING's international network, you will reliably strengthen existing and new customer relationships, support Swiss subsidiaries of international corporations, open up new business opportunities with our various product areas, and confidently take responsibility for the financial performance of your portfolio.

With your analytical mindset, you will ensure the implementation of the EMEA NSC strategy as well as the Virtual Client Teams (VCT) / customer strategies and ensure compliance with all applicable internal guidelines.

Entrepreneurial thinking, communication skills and technical know-how are your keys to success in the management of your customer portfolio as well as in internal strategic topics and projects.  At the same time, attention to details, discipline to timely monitor open items, and structural approach will ensure precise and efficient management of the operational and administrative side of relationship management.

A portion of your role may require you to act as Regional Account Manager for large corporate clients at Regional Headquarter level, closely collaborating with local NSC colleagues across EMEA to drive our Network Business in-country.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for business development with a designated portfolio of client relationships, as well as the identification of cross-selling opportunities across the full range of the bank’s offering of Lending Services, Financial Markets, Transaction Services;
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the client’s business, strategies, and banking needs in order to position ING to provide relevant ING products to the client in a timely manner with an objective of maximizing ING’s overall revenues and relationship economic profit;
  • Primary point of contact with corporate clients, serving their commercial banking needs – developing strong rapport with decision makers of clients and negotiating effectively;
  • Work closely with Parent Account Managers (in the client’s home countries) and relevant Network Sector Coverage colleagues (across EMEA) to execute client commercial plans and ensure that a consistent level of service is provided to the client worldwide;
  • Preparation of relevant client documentation including Credit Risk Committee, Commercial Committee applications, etc. in cooperation with related product group and global counterpart;
  • Ensure sound and prudent business management in accordance with statutory, regulatory and ING Group governance requirements, and financial and non-financial risks management on own clients’ portfolio in scope;
  • Play a leading role in Customer Due Diligence Process and work with Compliance to identify compliance risks and implement, maintain, and improve compliance controls;
  • Follow the account activity and be ready to explain any irregular items, prepare Transaction Profiles and AML exception reports;
  • Monitor implementation of client’s credit requests according to internal rules and credit viability from credit proposal to operational execution of credit application;
  • Recognize problems as they evolve, gather and communicate all credit deterioration signals to line and credit seniors;
  • Fully use Salesforce as the primary customer relationship management and activity management tool;
  • Prepare and submit for approval expense reports for incurred expenses while on-the-job.

Who we're looking for:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a commercial role, proven track record of origination capabilities and deal making;
  • Accomplished history of managing a portfolio of international clients as Regional Account Manager or Local Account Manager;
  • Good product knowledge and know the majority of lending, working capital solutions, payments & cash management, trade finance as well as financial markets;
  • Be commercially oriented, customer focused and keen to take initiative including with prospecting and developing new client relationships;
  • Passion for direct contact with clients and addressing client needs;
  • Excellent communication skills with strong command in both spoken and written English; (French or German language fluency is an advantage);
  • Strong collaboration mindset and team player with the ability to build effective working relationships with clients, product teams and internal stakeholders;
  • Strong analytical capabilities, detailed and meticulous, as well as investigative;
  • Problem solving skills and a continuous focus on structural solutions;
  • Mature and self-motivated with ability to work independently and under tight timeline;
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word processing applications;
  • Higher education (HBO) or University education, preferably in Finance/Economics, or relevant discipline.
