Our sales teams are regionally divided into four regions responsible for SME and MidCorp segments, where self-employed and Micro clients are served centrally.

ING is proud to drive entrepreneurship in the Netherlands through tailored Business Banking solutions for Self-Employed, Micro, SME, and MidCorp clients. ING Business Banking NL operates regionally, each with dedicated teams who serve their clients through two service models: Guided Banking and Relationship Banking. Within the Guided Banking service model, Business Advisors have transaction-based involvement with value-added advice and provide service support to core clients.

The Relationship Banking service model operates with a sectoral focus for clients with complex banking product needs at the top end of the business market as well as the large SME clients. Under both service models, ING services the broad product spectrum from Financial Markets, Payments, Lending, Lease, Real Estate Finance and Commercial Finance.

The Business Banking Regional Director will be the driving force behind ING’s success in the Northeast region which includes Groningen, Friesland, Drenthe, and Overijssel and operates from Zwolle. In this multifaceted leadership role, the candidate will be responsible for all business banking sales and managing and strengthening the regional teams.

Your key responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Guided & Relationship Banking Sales, the Regional Director will be an integral part of the Business Banking Sales NL leadership team. You will directly manage the Leads Guided Banking Sales and Relationship Banking Sales and be responsible for the Business Advisors, Relationship Managers and Associates. Collaboration with other regions and product verticals, including Lending, Financial Services, Payments, Real Estate Finance, and Transaction Services, is essential to ensure a consistent approach, foster alignment, and build strong cross-regional connections.

The Regional Director combines a strong background in banking and lending with deep expertise in the Northeastern business landscape. Commercially driven and customer-centric, you excel at building and maintaining relationships, identifying new opportunities, and driving innovation. With experience in large transformation projects, you balance strategic vision with a focus on risk and compliance, ensuring adherence to regulations while optimizing risk-reward within the client portfolio. Responsible for the region’s P&L, you set ambitious yet attainable targets, inspiring their teams to achieve excellence.

Blending empathy and discipline, the Regional Director fosters a cohesive, high-performance team culture. You prioritize coaching and mentoring, empowering team members while ensuring the effective application of service models and taking end-to-end responsibility. You will enable a strong collaboration, building relationships across regions and product verticals to drive alignment and collective success.

In this role, you will:

  • Drive the ownership for clients and P&L for SME and MidCorp clients, ensuring further growth of the current portfolio for the Northeast region.
  • Steer the development & the execution of the commercial strategy in the Northeast region, by identifying opportunities with the team to better serve and delight customers across the region.
  • Enhance the transformation of the Guided & Relationship Banking in the Northeast region, by serving clients through the sales & service models, thriving to enable the best customer experience.
  • Deliver a safe and secure advice experience, compliant with relevant internal and external rules and legislation.
  • Demonstrate visibility and proactive stakeholder management in Business Banking Netherlands, as well as maintaining an external network (being a face in the market).
  • Foster operational excellence in efficiency and effectiveness in the advice for the Northeast region.
  • Act as a figurehead for Northeast region clients in Netherlands.
  • Be involved in key networks and client relationships to support the team in achieving their ambitions.
  • Be hierarchical responsible for the Northeast Guided & Relationship Banking team, composed out of Business Advisors, Relationship Managers and Associates.
  • Collaborate very closely with the Product Teams like Lease, Real Estate Finance, Commercial Finance, Transaction Services, Lending & with Easy Banking.
  • Be involved on deal basis and interact with Credit risk for the Northeast region sales scope.
  • Deliver a differentiated customer experience to build client satisfaction and engagement.
  • Deliver on the four pillars of our customer promise: Easy fast and predictable, Digital and personal, Effortless handling and Proactive and relevant, together with the tribes.

  • 10+ years’ experience in a commercial role, leading sales professionals, and possess broad experience in sales and stakeholder management in the financial services. Broad experience in sales and both in- and external stakeholder management.
  • Proven track record in directing and implementing strategic and cultural transformations. Expertise in strategizing commercial plans and executing significant changes.
  • Broad and in-depth understanding of the needs and behaviors of customers in all of ING's segments.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of laws and regulations in advising business clients.
  • A competent conversation partner for a variety of internal and external stakeholders, representing  the Northeast region.
  • Focus on output, drive collaboration and possess a proactive and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Motivate individuals, fostering growth and achievement.
  • Embody and promote a strong professional code of conduct and be adept at both giving and receiving feedback.
  • Inspire clients, colleagues, and the corporation as a whole towards success.

This position requires a leader with a considerable depth of banking expertise, ready to guide the business to success within the Northeaster region.

  • A salary tailored to your qualities and experiences; 
  • A salary between € 9,872 and € 15,557 gross per month based on 36 hours;
  • 24-29 vacation days depending on your contract;

  • Individual Savings Contribution (BIS), 3.5% of your gross annual salary;
