Payment & Settlement Services (PSS) team. | The rhythm-makers of global banking

At ING Hubs Romania, the Payment & Settlement Services team ensures seamless and secure fund transfers across Wholesale Banking, Retail clients, and other ING divisions. The PSS team is part of ING’s global Payment Capability Hub, consisting of over 350 products, tech & operations professionals across Romania, the Philippines, and Slovakia.

Values and way of working

Think of a jazz band. Each musician plays a different instrument, yet together they create harmony. That’s the PSS team. This harmony doesn’t happen by chance. It’s built on trust, transparency, and a shared passion for the craft.

From engineers to product owners, bridging European and Asian timezones, they groove to the same beat: making payments seamless across continents with experts in product management, software development, automated testing, DevOps platforms and automation.

Cosmin Olteanu, chapter lead engineer, captures this rhythm:

“Our team has a unique cadence: from early-career professionals to colleagues with decades of experience, fresh ideas meet deep expertise, and together we create a flow that feels natural. These differences don’t divide us; they enrich our perspective.”

Work & impact

The PSS team in Romania delivers payment and settlement services and uses standard processes and advanced systems to ensure transactions are efficient, secure, and the clients payments experience is smooth.

Behind the scenes, this ambition comes to life through smart engineering. Every change is thoroughly tested before it goes live, thanks to automated testing and continuous delivery pipelines. Their monitoring tools and real-time alerts help them spot issues instantly, while failover and redundancy strategies ensure systems keep running smoothly, even if something goes wrong.

“Our vision is to make ING the largest payments processor in Europe. We operate across multiple geographies, ensuring every transaction is secure, precise, and fast.”, says Alex Sacerdoteanu, IT area lead.

This commitment doesn’t go unnoticed by those who work with them. Maarten Oude Lansink, tribe lead Products – Cash and Liquidity Management, shares his experience:

Collaborating with the PSS team in Romania is always a strategic advantage. They bring a strong sense of ownership, high-quality expertise, and the ability to design scalable solutions that make a real difference. Their proactive approach and technical foresight help us streamline payment flows and tackle challenges effectively. It’s a partnership built on trust and results.”

Team dynamics

PSS may be technical, but the team’s energy is deeply human. Their synergy comes from laughter, rituals, and shared moments that turn complexity into connection.

Petre Marinescu, customer journey expertblends professionalism with humour: “Officially, I manage backlogs. Unofficially, I make sure we never run out of coffee, sugar, and good vibes.”

That light-hearted remark says a lot about the team’s culture. They balance professionalism with playfulness, and deadlines with downtime. From lunch traditions in Bucharest (where the challenge is to never repeat the same shawarma twice) to virtual catchups across borders.

What do ING employees think about learning opportunities?

Their retrospectives feel like “free group therapy, but with post-its,” says Petre, sparking honest conversations and fresh ideas. That’s one of the many benefits of working Agile.

Different ages, backgrounds, and personalities converge into a vibrant mix of perspectives.

Elena Radu, Software engineer, adds her own note to the harmony: Things change quickly, so you need to enjoy learning. The PSS team is for professionals who want to grow, innovate, and understand how their work impacts everyday life.

This mix of technical focus and human warmth transforms global operation into a close-knit community.

And when things get tough? They don’t panic. The team smiles, rolls up their sleeves, and figures it out together. “Our biggest strength is team spirit. We divide tasks smartly and move forward together.”, says Petre Marinescu, customer journey expert.

Why join them?

Joining PSS means becoming part of a group that values curiosity, adaptability, and teamwork. Because in PSS, everything flows: money, data, ideas and above all, collaboration.
