About the position:

ING New York is looking to hire a Director of Integrated Risk in the US that is sufficiently experienced to navigate a broad range of enterprise level responsibilities including representing the IRM function across a range of stakeholder engagements as needed.  The Director should exhibit specialized knowledge of enterprise risk including Risk Appetite, Risk Identification and Stress Testing.  The position reports into the Head of Integrated Risk; in office attendance of 2 days per week minimum is required.

About the department:

Integrated Risk Americas will be based in New York City and will have central ownership on bank-wide risk topics that are not exclusively related to one risk type.  The department will be responsible for promoting enterprise risk management through governance and policy structures that fully support ING’s financial, non-financial, and strategic risk activities.  Integrated Risk Americas will also be responsible for the independent assessment of enterprise risks for the Americas, Recovery & Resolution Planning, reporting and analytics for the Risk Appetite Framework, and supporting global ICAAP Stress Testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Head of IRM to implement and continuously evolve the strategic vision for the function including the refinement of policies, frameworks, and methodologies in alignment with global Risk teams.
  • Implement, and refine ERM frameworks, policies, procedures, and governance structures aligned with regulatory guidelines.
  • Execute the local risk identification & risk assessment process, as the starting point for the local Risk Appetite Framework.
  • Help establish Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and risk appetite statements, to enhance risk transparency and accountability. Provide support for the periodic updates to senior management across risk types, individually and in the aggregate.
  • Contribute to the creation and management of the Enterprise Risk Management Policy and Program, standards, and procedures.
  • Foster a risk-aware culture by developing risk training programs, tools, and awareness initiatives across the Americas as needed.
  • Design and maintain the overarching local Risk governance structure and provide advice to local and global approval bodies for approval of local policies and/or waivers for US requirements.
  • Support enterprise stress testing capabilities across key portfolios.  Monitor emerging risks, regulatory changes, and industry trends to proactively adapt risk management strategies.
  • Coordination of the local Recovery & Resolution Planning in alignment with both local and global regulations and approach. This includes the local contribution to ING’s Recovery Plan, including monitoring and potential activation of local crisis management plans, and supporting local resolution planning activities, including implementing resolution requirements locally and supporting resolvability data requests.
  • Participate in, and prepare for, regulatory examinations and internal audits and assist in preparing responses to exams and audits.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Prior enterprise risk management experience and subject matter expert in risk appetite
  • 10+ years of knowledge of risk management and financial products, Credit risk experience is helpful.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent preferably in Finance, Economics, Quantitative Finance
  • Strong (data) analytical and quantitative skills (the breakdown of complex issues in manageable pieces)
  • Able to manage different stakeholders and navigate different cultural environments
  • Working with presentations, the ability to present complex content in an easy and transparent way
  • Logical and well-reasoned level of thinking
  • Ability to synthesize information with a strategic view to assess risks and develop recommendations
  • Well structured, autonomous, highly adaptive, flexible team player
  • Thrive while working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent communication skills and fluent in English (both verbal and in writing)
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Propagates ING views and opinions on issues relevant to field of expertise, also outside the ING organization

Salary Range: $216,000-273,000
