Analytics team

Across countries, cultures and tech landscapes, our Analytics teams make sense of the world through data, and use it to shape smarter, more seamless banking experiences.

Their day today blends craft with curiosity: uncovering patterns, shaping solutions, and keeping complex systems in tune so decisions can be made with confidence. It’s a place where individuals are encouraged to explore, grow and take initiative, and where collaboration isn’t a buzzword but the operating system.

Analytics Team

The pattern seekers of global banking

The team’s culture is deliberately vibrant: ideas flow “as freely as data streams”, workshops and peer led trainings nurture craftsmanship, and community events spark experimentation: from sustainability themes to new tools and techniques. In short, Analytics it’s a language for building better, data driven decisions and contributing to a more sustainable future.

Meet a part of our Analytics community, where data engineers, analysts, data scientists and customer journey experts solve complex challenges, build scalable solutions and keep pace with fast‑moving technologies. From simplifying operations to shaping how millions of customers interact with ING, their work creates ripple effects across markets. 🌍

Work and impact

Patterns shape how we understand the world, and in the Analytics environment, they shape how we build it. Our Analytics team looks beyond individual data points to spot the structures and connections that lead to smarter decisions across ING. These patterns come to life in their daily work, spanning financial crime prevention and conversational chatbots.

Impact takes different forms: Some days, it’s direct: client facing products, such as conversational chatbots that make interactions simpler and more accessible. Other days, it’s the indirect work that keeps ING running smoothly: process efficiency, analytics products that support seamless operations, and scalable solutions that can be adapted across markets while maintaining global standards.

But turning complex data into clear, reliable patterns is not without its challenges. Andreea Mihăilescu, tribe lead Data & Analytics, expands on that.

“One major challenge we face is the sheer volume of data that must be processed, cleaned, and validated in a standardised way so it’s usable globally. Large volumes also mean a lot of noise; extracting the meaningful signal demands strong analytics expertise and a deep understanding of both the products we build and the business problems we aim to solve.”

Growth has been notable, too: “Our global analytics organisation doubled in size over the last year while continuing to operate as one team across locations. We maintained delivery speed, quality, and culture—no small feat at that pace. Establishing product management leadership roles in Romania marks a significant milestone and reflects the maturity of the site and the trust our global organisation places in us.”

And working across borders adds another layer of richness. Different cultures bring different approaches, and blending those perspectives accelerates innovation and personal growth. As Andreea notes: “A global setup teaches flexibility and adaptability, skills that are essential in today’s dynamic world.”

What do ING employees think about learning opportunities?

Values & ways of working

For Ovidiu Toader, chapter lead data analysis, the team’s energy comes from a balance of challenge and collaboration. Every project brings its own driving forces, but one thing never changes: the thrill of solving complex problems together. He believes that “smart minds need to be stretched and that happens best in a supportive environment where ideas can flow freely.”

Roles within the team fit together like pieces of a puzzle. As he stated: “data engineers make sure information is accessible and reliable, analysts transform it into insights, and data scientists build predictive models that help the bank make smarter decisions. Meanwhile, customer journey experts stay close to the business side, ensuring solutions meet real needs.” It’s this mix of technical depth and business understanding that creates meaningful impact.

And when the workday ends? Bonding is refreshingly simple. As Ovidiu smiles: “Board games, free pizza, and the occasional drink, somehow that always does the trick.”

Team dynamics

Beyond dashboards, creativity runs deep fashion, music, DJ-ing, painting, even cocktail mixing and Lego building. Sharing treats has become a ritual, with a “sweet spot” in the office that doubles as a space for informal brainstorming. Cristina Stefanov, data analyst, sums it up: “We’re dynamic and curious, always exploring new technologies and ways of working.”

Celebrating individuality is part of the culture, from themed office days to Secret Santa with custom T-shirts. And yes, pattern-spotting isn’t just for data: “In an escape room, we cracked a code before finding the official clue, our data brains kicked in! Old habits die hard! At work, we notice other quirks—gravitation to the same lunch spots, afternoon coffee rituals on the terrace, and even ‘stakeholder signatures’ across countries: little behaviours that always spark funny, insightful discussions during online coffee breaks.”

There’s even a running joke about accidental outfit synchronicity: “All-black hoodies one week, striped shirts the next. It’s become our unspoken uniform.”

Why join them

Joining the Analytics team means stepping into a space where curiosity meets impact. It’s not just about crunching numbers, it’s about shaping how millions of people experience banking every day.

The team’s focus is always the customer. Alexandru Ivan, product owner, explains: “If you care about understanding how people interact with their bank and you’re eager to design solutions that feel simple, human and trustworthy, then you’re already thinking the way our team does.”

But that’s only part of how they work. Thinking big matters too, especially when building solutions that scale across various ING markets. And with technology moving fast, adaptability becomes essential. As Alex puts it “GenAI moves quickly; stay open to experimentation and learn iteratively.”

Innovation here is responsible, balancing creativity with compliance, and always aiming for improvement that lasts. It’s a culture where learning never stops and where every challenge is an opportunity to grow.

The reward? Seeing your ideas shape real customer experiences and create solutions ripple across domains, knowing your work influences how millions of people interact with their bank every day. Or, as Alex puts it simply: “If you love turning data into real customer impact, you’ll love our team.” 🧡
