The mission

Our vision is to design and implement the foundational systems and infrastructure that enables banking operations, including account management and transactions. Our mission is to ensure that the core banking system meets the regulatory requirements, scales efficiently, and integrates with other banking systems while having in mind security, efficiency, robustness and reliability.

Within Core Banking Architecture we are looking for a new Domain Architect. You will be joining an experienced Architecture team that work together with Business and Technology colleagues to realize our goals that drive our vision. The team is spread globally in multiple locations, working to further develop ING’s global services. 

Your day to day

• Design & document complex, secure and resilient systems which can cover business needs, consolidating multiple driving factors, using advanced knowledge of system design, analysis and development;
• Coordinate architecture activities for incremental changes (maintaining and extending existing solutions) and innovative changes (conceiving new solutions for emerging opportunities) for Core Banking domain;
• Participate in defining reference architectures;
• Use different patterns and elaborate designs to cover the non-functional requirements especially on the resilience and performance areas;
• Create flexible but robust designs that prepares the company for the future;
• Organise and support workshops and presentations for decision making;
• Engage with development teams and review/approve technical designs;
• Work together with other domain architects for cross domain topics;
• Contribute to the creation of global architecture standards;
• Deep dive into both new, cutting edge and legacy technologies helping build POCs and advising on best strategies;
• Manage stakeholders across multiple departments in various countries;
• Help in simplifying and consolidating the IT landscape;
• Help prevent technical atrophy, technical debt and maintain technical currency through architectural governance;
• Work independent under limited guidance with a strong drive to collaborate

with other stakeholders.

• Have experience in highly regulated environments (e.g., financial institutions);
• Empathy, integrity and a solid ethical sense;
• Engineering skills, thorough knowledge of content and architecture of multiple domains and/or platforms (technologies, applications, infrastructure, business processes);

• Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical topics to various audiences (i.e. from business, over IT managers, to Solution Architects & implementation squads);
• You are able to translate requirements into well-defined target Architecture solutions taking into account all relevant dimensions: Business strategy & vison, IT strategy & vison, Architecture principles, non-functionals, security, operations;
• You are able to develop Architecture roadmaps with the right sense of pragmatism i.e. go target where feasible and define transition Architectures where required ... all in an Agile context. This is all about defining islands of stability during our journey from the as-is towards the target state;
• You can act as a problem-solver, you are not afraid of challenges. You can take a step back, turn challenges into solutions by making use of your abstraction, conceptualization & Architecture skills;
• You are a team player that brings together all the required stakeholders to define end-to-end Architectures;
• You improve yourself constantly; and you challenge, improve and train others continuously;
• Ability to work within budget, schedules, technology availability constraints;
• Ability to grasp and master new concepts quickly.
• Knowledge of Architecture framework(s) (TOFAG, IAF, Zachmann, ...) is a plus;
• Previous experience working with core banking systems is a plus;
• Foreign languages: English (advanced).
