We are looking for an energetic, creative and delivery-oriented consultant for ING NL’s Center of Expertise (CoE) Sustainability. Do you want to take your analytical capabilities and influencing skills to the next level and have an impact on the strategic direction of ING in the Netherlands? Then continue reading!

The team’s purpose is to raise the bar on sustainability. Being it Financial Health or Planetary Health. This specific role will focus on the activities related to Planetary Health, in its widest context, for example climate or biodiversity.

The team

The team consists of 11 colleagues within 3 expertise areas, Planetary Health, Financial Health and our corporate foundation: the ING Nederland fonds. With our Planetary Health team we are the catalyst for change that’s needed to help raise the bar for sustainability. Within the company – doing more than we thought we could, and outside the company – doing more than others thought we could. We share our expertise, activate colleagues, and  engage external stakeholders. All in the pursuit of sustainable progress for all.

Roles and responsibilities

As Sustainability Consultant Planetary Health your responsibilities include:

  • support and advice the development and implementation of ING’s ESG strategy in order to reach our sustainability goals with a focus on planetary health

  • analyze external research performed on ESG related matters that might impact our strategy and business (retail banking, business banking, wholesale banking); and use these to support decision making or suggest improvements

  • support and challenge business domains in defining sustainability KPIs, targets, and actions, including reviewing complex calculations such as carbon‑emissions reporting

  • drive and coordinate cross‑domain sustainability initiatives; aligning ESG direction, shaping early‑phase projects, and ensuring measurable improvements before handover to the responsible business domain

  • participate in (external) working groups and projects

  • keep track of sustainability regulation and other relevant developments and plot potential impacts against our banking activities and ING’s ESG strategy and sustainability ambitions

  • prepare and conduct presentations on sustainability topics and ING sustainability policies for various key stakeholders, including conferences, panels, townhalls, as well as  materials for ING colleagues to use in client conversations

  • work closely together and act as a linking pin between the CoE Sustainability NL and  the ING Global Sustainability team or other relevant programs across ING

You are able to rise above the material. Our biggest expectation is that you’ll stay curious and question the status quo. Keep learning. Take responsibility. In return, we’ll back you to develop into an even more knowledgeable professional with the opportunity to grow.

  • Master’s degree and at least 5 years relevant working experience (preferably in sustainability consulting)

  • Top analytical skills open to new tooling; able to grasp complex and data heavy content, work in Excel, make non-standard analysis and quantification of action plans in a field which is constantly changing (both in stakeholder expectations as in data availability and quality)

  • Sound understanding of sustainability in general and stakeholder sustainability expectations, both broadly and specifically in the banking context

  • A sharp pen and consultancy skills. You are an excellent communicator and creative in engaging varied audiences effectively. You know how to generate inspiring content, presentations and short and snappy briefings and reports in PowerPoint,  and Word

  • Stakeholder management skills; collaborating with and coordinating projects for stakeholders in different business domains and incidentally external collaborations

  • Investigative and learns quickly whilst also being goal-oriented and flexible in the solutions
