Application synergy is key for ING Bank. The “Enterprise application architect” is responsible to define synergic approaches to enable business strategy through an effective evolution of application landscape. The resource analyzes IT trends and defines the application roadmaps for specific functional domains. He will also keep updated the relative current architectures to monitor the gaps to close, defining roadmaps and influencing their implementation.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and evangelize architecture guiding principles, policies, best practices, reference architecture and standards.
  • Define the target application architecture for the assigned domains and keep updated the relative current architectures, from functional and application perspective, providing strategic architecture direction and ensuring alignment with local and global mandates. Monitor the health status of application architecture.
  • Responsible to close gaps between as-is and to-be architectures, reviewing and analyzing existing systems and make recommendations for improvements keeping in consideration application security, reliability, reuse and integration.
  • Liaise with Head Office and IT architecture community within the ING Group in relation to common technology infrastructure systems used and the requirements of those systems.
  • Proactively collaborate with solution architects and development teams during Secure Software Development Life Cycle (S-SDLC) when architecture review is required.
  • Interface with vendors with regards to the continuous maintenance and development of the IT architecture.
  • Monitor compliance of development work against established standards and principles and work to resolve issues through appropriate formal and informal channels.
  • Work closely with other architects and developers to give guidance on application architecture topics.
  • Play a support role in selecting and implementing technologies supporting microservices, web components, reactive programming and application integration pattern with legacy systems.

Educational Qualifications and work experience

  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or comparable background experience.
  • 5+ years of experience required in a complex IT environment.

  • Open minded and Team player.
  • Structured and analytical approach, Investigative and with learning ability.
  • Effective in communication (written and spoken) and able to jump to different abstraction layers.
  • High problem-solving skills.
  • Visionary.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Good interpersonal skills to address challenges in a professional manner, lead working groups, negotiate and create consensus.
  • Ability to translate complex technical terminology, concepts and issues in terms understandable to technical and non-technical management and staff.

Technical, Language and other Specialized Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of service-oriented architecture, microservice architecture and reactive programming.
  • Advanced application development skills and experience required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Software and Data Modelling methodologies (UML based).
  • Good knowledge in database management systems (relational and NoSql).
  • Good knowledge of applying TOGAF methodology (or similar EA framework) to the document application architecture.
  • Good knowledge of application development processes.
  • Good knowledge of IT processes and SDLC.
  • Good knowledge of OWASP application security concepts.
