We are looking for a Lead, Strategy & Planning to join our Retail Planning and Operation team.

Reporting directly to the Head of Planning & Operations, you’ll play a critical role, working across the deep breadth of the Retail Bank teams and leadership to set, track, monitor and optimise business performance. You’ll play a pivotal role in the annual business planning and strategy process, and effective strategy execution during a period of significant growth for our organisation.

Within this high paced, dynamic environment, you’ll be responsible for leading strategy and business planning, prioritisation of change initiatives across Retail, undertaking deep dives and building capability to drive effective business performance. The role offers scope for leadership across pricing and revenue growth activities, performance forecasting and expense management and business planning and budgeting processes.

You’ll have a growth mindset aligned to our growing business; and within this key leadership role working across Retail teams you’ll uplift our capabilities in forecasting and performance monitoring, strategy development and strategic partnerships to achieve ambitious targets.

Using your superior data driven analysis skills; critical to the role is provision of analysis and insights both inside out and outside in to drive effective management decision making.

You’ll thrive in this role if you enjoy a varied role (where no 2 days are the same!) with huge breadth working across the Retail business with regular interactions with C suite and leadership across ING Australia.

What you’ll do

Lead the Planning and Performance team to:

  • Lead the annual strategy, business planning, and budgeting process, coordinating with Retail teams, Finance, and executives.
  • Oversee monthly forecasting for Retail, covering income, expenses, and customer metrics, aligning with growth targets.
  • Monitor performance, provide analysis, ad hoc reporting, and insights to support Retail in meeting targets and KPIs.
  • Collaborate with Tribes on business cases, strategic initiatives, and change investment prioritisation.
  • Lead strategy presentations, input into business reviews, and support Retail Bank management.
  • Enhance Retail capabilities in forecasting, pricing, P&L management, and strategy development
  • Prepare and lead Retail offsites, workshops, and input for Executive Committees and Board presentations.
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses, cross-functional initiatives, and assessments (e.g., P&L gaps, cost optimisation, M&A).
  • Drive growth through identification and establishment of strategic partnerships and optimise relationships to meet key performance outcomes - working with Marketing and Product Tribes

What we’re looking for

  • Degree in Business, Marketing, or Finance
  • 10+ years of experience in Strategy, Consulting, Business Development, or Business Management in financial services
  • Experience managing strategic partnerships in a regulated industry
  • Solid understanding of retail banking products, cost/revenue drivers, and financial performance levers
  • Advanced financial modelling skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder influencing skills
  • Ability to critically review and challenge business cases and product proposals
  • Proven ability to manage conflicting priorities across multiple stakeholders
  • Extensive analytical and research skills, especially in market and competitor analysis
  • Advanced project management and organisational skills
  • Business case development and market analysis  
  • Experience in an agile delivery environment (nice to have)
