Senior Manager Model Risk Oversight

The role is responsible for model risk oversight for ING Australia from a local regulatory compliance perspective. This involves oversight on both local and global model life cycle processes from an ING and APRA perspective. The focus is on embedding recent uplifts to the Model Risk Management Framework, supporting the Model Risk Management Sub-Committee to effectively perform its role, and identifying and driving opportunities to enhance model risk management across the business through an advisory role.

The role will have the opportunity to develop deep expertise in banking risk management and governance. It requires a holistic overview of the banking landscape, legal and regulatory environment and risk management function across retail and wholesale banking.

What you’ll do

  • Point of contact for the business for model risk, driving implementation of the Model Risk Management Framework and supporting policies, procedures and guidance, including the adoption of the AI framework
  • Guiding compliance with and understanding of model risk management policies and the model lifecycle across ING Australia, including action planning for mitigating risks
  • Present reporting to Management Committees (EXCO) and the Board on model risk management matters holistically across the business
  • Performing deep dives and thematic risk reviews, including with respect to emerging model risks such as AI and model ethics
  • Ensuring evolving regulatory expectations are met and supporting relevant regulatory interactions including communications and onsite reviews
  • Model Risk Management Sub-Committee secretarial duties and driving efficacy of the Sub-Committee
  • Manage Local Integrative risk Policies, procedures and local annexures related to Models, Model risk relevant to the integrative risk function with support from risk SMEs

What we’re looking for

  • 10+ years practical experience in a risk, compliance or model development role in the financial services industry (in either Line 1 or Line 2).
  • Degree qualified in business, commerce, science, law or related discipline
  • Experience working in second line model risk oversight/modelling/testing role or experience working in model development role
  • Strong stakeholder management experience, including an ability to negotiate and influence stakeholders across all levels of management, make recommendations and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Proven track record of managing high priority items in high pressure environments
  • Analytical skills – ability to proactively identify and diagnose risk related issues quickly and provide business-oriented solutions
