The Team

As an intern, you will be part of the Interest Rate Risk in the Banking Book (IRRBB) team within the Banking Risk tribe of the Financial Risk department. The team contributes to the global management of interest rate risks that affect ING Group’s consolidated balance sheet.

Specifically, the team is responsible for identifying, evaluating, controlling, monitoring, and reporting on interest rate risks. To ensure effective risk management at portfolio and balance sheet levels, there is close collaboration with senior risk management and the 1st  Line of Defence. You will work in a dynamic, international, corporate environment with professional colleagues who continually challenge each other to achieve the best results.

Role and responsibilities

  • Support the IRRBB chapter in identifying, analysing, and quantifying interest rate risk for ING globally through assisting in the monthly reporting & analysis cycle. By doing so, you get familiar with the ins and outs of the department and ING’s Financial Risk structure. In addition, you will deepen your knowledge of Asset & Liability Management (ALM) practices and IRRBB models.
  • Leverage programming skills to optimize and improve IRRBB risk systems, analytical tools, and reporting dashboards.
  • Applying GenAI (e.g. Copilot, Python-based tools) to data analytics or financial risk problems.
  • Interact with risk professional in the team and provide support to senior risk management and the 1st Line of Defence in managing and reducing financial risks as required.

In particular, as a member of our team, you are:

  • Available for 36 hours per week
  • Must be enrolled in a Dutch university for the entire duration of the internship and available for 6 months mimmum.
  • Able to physically join your colleagues weekly in the Amsterdam office
  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree in a quantitative field, such as Econometrics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or a related discipline. Please note that internship topics are not appropriate for thesis work.
  • Equipped with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, demonstrating a keen interest in data, quantitative analysis and modelling.
  • Skilled in Python programming, Power BI enabling you to strengthen existing models.
  • Experienced with refactoring, data engineering-related tasks and have a good understanding of quantitative methods.
  • Exhibiting excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Proactive with the ability to work independently and collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Exposure to GenAI tools or techniques is a plus.
