Intern Project Support Sustainability & Employee Engagement

Presenta la candidatura

The Opportunity
Are you a talented organiser with an interest in sustainability, and would you like to see how a large organisation translates its sustainability ambitions into tangible results? Then we’re looking for you! We are looking for an enthusiastic intern to support the Sustainability team in organising, preparing and continuously improving the Sustainability Obeya: the central steering mechanism through which ING Netherlands monitors, discusses and adjusts progress towards its sustainability targets. This is where experts, managers and decision-makers come together to discuss results, resolve bottlenecks and set priorities.

You’ll also support our employee engagement expert in developing training programmes, inspiring events and communication initiatives that make sustainability visible, relevant and tangible for staff.

The team
The sustainability team is a small and driven team whose role is to drive and further develop sustainability within ING Netherlands. We work closely with various (sustainability) experts across the bank, from Risk to HR, and from Mortgages to Investments. This gives you the opportunity to build up a broad network and gain an insight into how sustainability is managed within a large organisation.
The atmosphere within the team is informal, communication lines are short, and there’s plenty of scope to take the initiative. No two days are the same: the work is varied and the pace is fast. Although it can get busy at times, we’re happy to help one another, and collaboration and enjoyment are key. The whole team works together in the office two days a week. On the other days, you can choose flexibly between working from home and working in the office, and there will always be someone in the office.

What does your workday look like?

  • You’ll be working within the Centre of Expertise Sustainability. Together with the Sustainability team, you’ll ensure that the Sustainability Obeya runs smoothly.
  • You’ll support the preparation of sessions, monitor action points and help teams to submit their information in a timely and complete manner. In addition, you’ll work with sustainability KPIs, dashboards and management information.
  • You’ll help to collect, analyse and visualise qualitative and quantitative data, gaining unique insight into how sustainability targets are monitored and how decision-making takes place within a large organisation.
  • You’ll also support the employee engagement expert with training programmes and various inspirational events on sustainability that we organise throughout the year.

Your work is varied and offers you a unique insight into how sustainability is managed within ING. One day you might be preparing an Obeya session and liaising with various experts; the next, you might be helping to update and analyse progress reports and dashboards, or organising a deep dive into a key sustainability topic. You’ll also have the chance to contribute to new initiatives that bring sustainability closer to employees in an accessible and inspiring way.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Preparing and coordinating Sustainability Obeya sessions;
  • Bringing teams together and ensuring that the right information is available in good time;
  • Monitoring progress, action points and decision-making;
  • Working with sustainability data, dashboards, one-pagers, portfolios and KPIs, so that you can see first-hand how ING measures and steers its performance towards its sustainability objectives;
  • Assisting with the analysis of figures, progress reports and trends;
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of initiatives that make sustainability visible, relevant and tangible for staff, thereby helping to further increase engagement with sustainability within ING.
  • Writing posts for our internal channels and online community;
  • Organising various events for staff on the topic of sustainability;

If you demonstrate that you are able and willing to take on more responsibilities, you will be given every opportunity within the team to take on projects and improvement initiatives independently. We do not offer opportunities for a graduation project.

How to succeed
We hire smart people like you for your potential. Our biggest expectation is that you’ll stay curious. Keep learning. Take on responsibility. In return, we’ll back you to develop into an even more awesome version of yourself. You’re interested in sustainability and have strong organisational and structuring skills. You enjoy bringing different people together, keeping track of things and ensuring that agreements are honoured.
In addition:

  • You are currently studying for a higher professional education (HBO) or university (WO) degree;
  • You are accurate and work in a structured manner;
  • You are good at planning and organising;
  • You enjoy working with qualitative and quantitative data, dashboards and progress reports;
  • You take ownership and maintain an overview of multiple activities simultaneously;
  • You work independently but actively seek collaboration;
  • You have strong communication skills, are not afraid to ask probing questions and raise issues for discussion;
  • You feel at home in a dynamic environment where many different stakeholders work together;
  • You are proficient in PowerPoint and Excel;
  • You have a good command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written.
  • A degree in, for example, Sustainability, Business Administration, Project Management, Strategy, Organisational Sciences or a similar field is a good fit. However, we consider it more important that you derive energy from organising, structuring, analysing and collaborating than your specific field of study.

At ING, we place great value on inclusion. We want everyone who works at ING to feel at home and accepted for who they are, regardless of their background or beliefs. We encourage you to apply for this role regardless of your background or identity.

Rewards and benefits
This is a great opportunity to train with highly skilled people who are experts in their field. You’ll do a lot and learn a lot – not only about your specialist area and the bank, but also about yourself and whether this type of environment is right for you.

  • A unique opportunity to help steer ING’s sustainability ambitions;
  • A great deal of responsibility and scope for initiative;
  • Direct collaboration with experts and managers from various parts of ING;
  • Experience in project coordination, stakeholder management and continuous improvement;
  • A workplace at our head office in Amsterdam;
  • An opportunity to take part in various activities for interns.

You’ll also benefit from:

  • Internship allowance of 700 EUR based on 36 hours work week
  • Your own work laptop
  • Hybrid working to blend home working for focus and office working for collaboration and co-creation
  • Personal growth and challenging work with endless possibilities
  • An informal working environment with innovative colleagues

During the duration of your internship at ING, it is mandatory to be enrolled at a Dutch university (or EU-university for EU passport holders).
