We started out in 2015 as ING’s software development hub – a distinct entity in relation to ING Bank Romania – then steadily expanded our range to include more services and competencies. Formerly known as ING Tech, as of 2022 we provide borderless services with bank-wide capabilities under the name of ING Hubs Romania and operate from two locations: Bucharest and Cluj.

ING Hubs Romania offers 150 services in software development, data management, non-financial risk & compliance, audit, and retail operations to 24 ING units worldwide, with the help of 1400 engineers, risk, and operations professionals.

Your work environment

ING’s Payment and Settlement Services (“PSS”) aims to further mature, develop and expand ING’s state of the art payments and settlements services. The PSS focusses on delivering payments and settlement services, meeting the expectations of ING’s business lines and beyond, whilst ensuring the basics: safe, secure, compliant, and reliable.

PSS is responsible for providing standardized payments and settlements services to multiple ING business lines (WB, Retail, and others) in various countries. There is a clear ambition to also look for external commercialization of our payment platforms.

PSS changes the organization towards a true Services-based organization and, to deliver on ambitious promises, we have organized ourselves into a strong strategic and commercially focused organization around our eight services, where our squads working on those products are enabled by clear prioritization, accountability, and capabilities.

You work in ING’s Open Banking program, created to deliver ING’s Open Banking strategy. Open Banking evolves around Application Programming Interfaces (APIs): a way to easily open-up capabilities and share data. We believe it will help ING to accelerate innovation and collaboration with partners, customers and platforms to improve customer experiences and create new business models. Key to success is our developer portal at developer.ing.com which enables parties to connect and create value in an easy, secure and scalable way.

What You Will Do

  • You advise and assist customers in designing, building, testing and operating applications that use ING APIs and products available at developer.ing.com, with a focus on technical implementation and complex API integrations.
  • You organise and conduct technical workshops and “deep-dive” sessions with customers, both virtual and on-site, to ensure that API integration and go live are a smooth and seamless experience.
  • You advise and assist ING teams in designing their API, endpoints, requests and responses based on the OpenAPI Specification and ensure design and implementation guidelines are met.
  • As a subject matter expert on API standards you ensuring consistency with industry frameworks.
  • You work hands-on with ING APIs to demonstrate and prototype integrations in customer/partner environments.
  • You use modern tooling and possibly sandbox environments to simulate and fix issues quickly.
  • You create technical documentation on a variety of API related topics, ranging from generic Get Started guides to more detailed articles/ technical blog posts about API and security concepts contributing to Open Banking developer forums.
  • You provide high quality guidance for our customers and share best practices with the larger community worldwide and ensure implementations of the ING APIs remain compliant with regulations.
  • You educate and mentor our developer support organization to enhance its efficiency and effectiveness and disseminate best practices in API usage for an excellent developer experience.
  • You address major issues with internal ING teams for a resolution that is in best interest of our customers.
  • You act as voice-of-the-customer to feed back customer pains and gains to the ING platform and API teams.

What You Bring to the team

  • You have multiple years experience as a technical field engineer in a customer facing role.
  • You keep a high level of customer focus and ownership, reflecting banks’ emphasis on service quality (measured via client feedback/NPS).
  • You are a master in understanding and dealing with customer requirements.
  • You excel in problem-solving customers’ technical issues.
  • You are experienced in doing code reviews and debugging client code.
  • You are proficient in making complex information accessible through writing.
  • You are a certified technical writer or have vast experience in technical writing of documentation.
  • You have proven ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-experts.
  • You are able to quickly learn new concepts and emerge as a go-to person.
  • You have experience with software lifecycle, build tools and architecting/developing software in various environments.
  • You have a good understanding of API technology, OAuth, PKI/certificates/TLS.
  • You have experience with multiple programming languages (for example Java, Python and/or NodeJS) to give support on customer specific problems. Knowledge of API runtime environments (for example Linux server) is a plus.
  • You keep up-to-date on the latest technical developments relating to industry standards and best practices.
  • You are able to identify opportunities for new platform features and API products.
  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • You have strong communication skills and easily engage with customers.
  • You have excellent English (and possibly additional European languages) verbal and written communication skills
  • Collaboration and cultural awareness to work in global teams, aligning with a distributed Global workforce.
