Job Overview
The Chief Operations Officer (COO) domain builds bridges within ING linking to almost every part of the bank. Its purpose is to drive secure, efficient processes for our customers and colleagues.
ING wants to set up a bank-wide COO organisation that's ready for the future, with scalable, seamless, digital, and resilient operations. To help us achieve this, COO identified three main ways to make the most impact:
- Building a network organisation: more networking and cross-border collaboration.
- Consolidating the organisation: share capabilities and services in locations where we can best embed these.
- Digitalisation/straight-through processing: making our processes end-to-end to provide a seamlessly digital experience for our customers.
Global COO Finance is an independent unit within ING’s COO domain, reporting hierarchically into ING’s Chief Financial Officer and functionally into ING’s Chief Operations Officer.
Global COO Finance (COOF) is accountable for designing the global finance operations and technology strategy (together with ING’s TECH organisation) and optimising productivity and customer satisfaction in Operations to improve operational efficiency. It is accountable for executing ING Finance and COO strategy to evolve towards one global digital bank, is responsible for performance of Operations, the operating model, decisions on sourcing and all relevant regulatory and Risk topics.
The purpose of COOF: We apply our expertise to deliver best-in-class, compliant and future proof services, partnering with our consumers to enable strategic decision making.
Your job is to lead one or more squads with a related purpose to develop, implement and/or maintain products and services. You have an end-to-end strategic focus around your services and leads your squads in terms of clear prioritization, accountability and capabilities. The Product Lead is a position where all elements of a product come together, the what and the how, with an end-to-end transformation responsibility. You work not only on delivery and on how we run a product, but also on creating a vision on how we improve our services, how we manage the business value and how we increase collaboration across functions.
You are responsible for the execution of all activities for your product in Netherlands, ING Hubs and with our SSI partners in India, including risk & control activities to remain in control of risks and keeping the bank safe. You do that by steering squads who work on a specific service by providing them with a strategic direction, by coaching them on the job, defining the product roadmap and by managing stakeholders. The people who work in the squads report to you, which means it is your job to empower them to thrive and perform at their best. You set direction, you help them to develop their craftsmanship and you have continuous conversations about their career development. As a Product Lead you report hierarchically to the Tribe Lead Granular Reporting.
The Granular Reporting Tribe focuses on delivery of all change of all change and operations of the necessary data and reporting solutions for the granular reporting. Besides that, the tribe is responsible for developing, operating and maintaining FRIDA, Ferdi, and the F&R Tenant. The squads within the tribe are grouped into 4 products:
- Financial Supervisory Reporting: Ensure the delivery the Financial Supervisory Reporting, such as the DGS reporting, in line with the regulatory requirements. This includes the necessary change and operational activities.
- Granular Regulatory Reporting: Ensure the delivery of the AnaCredit, CRE, RRE, and similar granular regulatory reporting, in line with the regulatory requirements. This includes the necessary change and operational activities. This product will also support the existing FeRDI implementations.
- Finance & Risk Reconciliation: Provide functional expertise on reconciliation, including matching, and the technical implementation of the reconciliation mechanisms in MMT and FRIDA.
- FRIDA Data Reporting: This team creates the reporting from FRIDA for various regulatory initiatives for Finance and Risk such as credit risk loan tapes and PowerBI reporting, ESG lens, Finrep lens.
Key Responsibilities
You deliver change according to project plans, while staying safe, reliable and compliant on your products and services. You are continuously looking for ways to improve, to further optimise the sourcing strategy, and to further drive employee engagement and diversity.
Leadership and Direction - Communicate the actions needed to implement the COOF strategy for your Product; explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision and values; motivate people to commit to these and to doing extraordinary things to achieve local business goals.
Risk Management - Take ownership on risk management and follow the appropriate procedures to assess and mitigate financial risk and non-financial risk while operating business processes, in order to protect the organization from undue risks.
Business planning – Contribute to the development of annual business plans for a your department, ensuring alignment with strategy. Propose business targets and schedule key activities/projects to deliver performance targets.
Data driven products and Service improvements - Develop data-driven analyses to surface new opportunities to differentiate and improve products and user experiences, ensuring consistency across products and services.
Horizon scanning - Explore and develop a detailed understanding of external developments or emerging issues and contribute to the evaluation of their potential impact on, or usefulness to, the organization.
Organisational capability building - Identify the team's individual development needs. Plan and implement actions, including continuing professional development to build their professional capabilities. Coach and mentor the people in your line of responsibility to support the development of the COOF talent pool.
Policies and procedures development - Help develop procedures for an area of the organization, and monitor their implementation.
Regulatory and Compliance Management - Help design and implement regulatory and compliance standards in your scope of responsibility.
Solutions Analysis - Identify and evaluate complex, expertise-led solutions against a range of criteria to find the ones that best meet business needs.
Stakeholder Engagement - Identify and manage stakeholders, finding out their needs/issues/concerns and reacting to these to support the communication of business information and decisions.
Strategy Implementation - Develop tactical plans for optimizing resources and assets being managed within your department
You have a proven track record and the following technical and behavioral skills:
You hold a Masters Degree (University / Postgraduate) and have ~6-7 years of experience in area of expertise and relevant experience of planning and managing resources to deliver predetermined objectives (~2-3 years).
For a Product Lead function on GJA17 you also bring previous experience of working in complex environment, dealing with internal and external stakeholders and solid knowledge of managing transformation/change projects (~2-3 years).
Acting as the organisation’s authority in the following technical skill areas:
- Strategic Planning - Engages in strategic planning without supervision and provides technical guidance when required.
- Analyze Current State - Understand business context, needs, rules, and architecture, as well as organizational structure, cultures, capabilities, and processes to document the current state of processes and the business.
- Define Future State - Envision and document the future state of processes and products by
identifying the solution scope, potential value of the future state, and the changes to the process, products, organization infrastructure, capabilities, and technology necessary to achieve the desired future state.
- Managing Change - Provides technical guidance on maintaining high performance while applying a change mindset to the planning, execution and monitoring of business activities during times of change
- Products/Services Management and Development - Provides technical guidance on managing and developing all aspects of a product or service so that it achieves its maximum impact and value in the market
- One Agile Way of Working - Challenges and optimizes the Way the Tribe is applying the delivery model by bringing in new ideas to improve the Way of Working and coaching others. Coaches continuously for improvement and stimulates squads towards maturity in collaboration and content.
- Project Management - Manage and guide multiple unrelated projects with possibly different life cycles.
