The role of Head of Lending Italy is responsible for the commercial performance of the WB Lending Product in Italy, drives the Italian sector P&L targets and steers on risk/return and Capital efficiency. You will be a member of the WB Italy Management Team and will actively contribute to the EMEA Lending MT, ensuring strong alignment with the regional strategy and governance framework

The Head of Lending Italy is accountable for the oversight of functional areas within the Italian Lending franchise, including Transaction Management (TM), Portfolio Management (PM), performance of the local Lending portfolio, driving the local Lending proposition, working closely with the Sectors, overseeing the Lending Product Control Framework (PCF) and ensuring transformation projects are delivered.

You support the local Lending teams developing their HR agenda in cooperation with your HR Business Partner.

Your responsibilities

Broadening and strengthening the regional and local Lending strategy, target setting, business planning and taking local ownership of implementing strategic themes related to the Lending product. Steering the commercial, financial, operational, and regulatory performance and effectiveness of the local Lending book including, but not limited to:

  • Accountability for P&L, RWA, Risk/Return, direct, indirect and risk cost;

  • Effective Transaction and Portfolio Management and reporting;

  • Identifying growth opportunities in the local Lending market and fostering a co-origination mindset;

  • Coordinating knowledge sharing across local Lending teams and with other relevant stakeholders;

  • Actively contributing to the EMEA Lending franchise, including WB strategic planning, alignment and execution, and participating in international projects in close cooperation with Tribe Lending and other global stakeholders

  • Obtaining and sharing of relevant market information and competitive dynamics;

  • Proactively contributing to local Capital Velocity and Sustainability targets;

  • Ensuring regulatory compliance, data quality and remediation as well as sound management of financial and non-financial risk;

  • Leading the roll-out of relevant regulatory programs and system implementations.

  • Representing the Lending franchise in relevant local NFR and financial risk committees, acting as the First Line of Defense and, where applicable, FO mandate holder for portfolio quality and profitability

  • Owning the local Lending product proposition and quality including:

    • Process standardization (including roll-out and maintenance of the Lending PCF);

    • Sourcing;

    • Implementation of our Lending Digitalization Journey and the related new WoW.

The team

You will have coordination and overarching business performance responsibility for the Lending teams active in the country, covering corporate and institutional clients.

The Head of Lending will hierarchically report to the Head of WB Italy and functionally to the EMEA Head of Lending.

Your profile:

  • Experienced banking professional with a strong commercial track-record, solid understanding of the local market and the Lending product;

  • Degree in Economics or related fields, preferably with a specialization in Finance;

  • At least 15 years of expercience in the banking sector and in matrix organizations;

  • Result-driven and ambitious, with an organized, balanced, and collaborative operating style;

  • Leadership skills in a commercial environment to steer, unify and engage local Lending teams and interact with relevant stakeholders; skilled in managing across different (Lending) domains;

  • Ability to create a “one team” vision and feeling and drive people topics to the next level. Advanced communication, interpersonal and process management skills, organizational sensitivity, and commercial drive combined with sound credit judgement and analytical skills; sound knowledge of financial and non-financial risks acting as 1st line of defence;

  • Naturally collaborative with the ability to effectively operate within a matrix organization;

  • Established internal network; external market / client network is a positive;

  • Able to adapt to a fast-changing environment and embracing change. Entrepreneurial skills seeking constant innovation with an outside-in perspective, always looking for ways to create improvements and efficiency;

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to regional forums cross‑border cooperation and global Lending initiatives;

  • Strong commitment to ING’s Sustainability strategy;
