About the position:

Associate position in the ING Americas ODCR team working closely with risk, process and control owners to advise and ensure the proper implementation of relevant Compliance Control Frameworks and execute activities to mitigate identified risks for reporting to senior management.

Additionally, as ODCR team is part of the COO domain, you will support management, all business lines of ING Americas and work closely with our second line of defense Compliance department in the identification, assessment, mitigation and reporting of our non-financial risks, especially Compliance-related risks.  This includes monitoring non-financial risk activities on a regular basis to ensure ING Americas complies with ING Group policies and guidelines, as well as applicable local laws, regulations and standards.

About the department:

Operational Design, Control and Resilience (ODCR) Americas team consists of professionals and experts in various financial services and risk management areas. We work with business and support functions to ensure optimal control and resilience design, execution, and monitoring of Non-Financial Risks, business activities and processes, as well as enhancing risk culture in these domains.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of ODCR Compliance Expert include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Risk Assessment: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential non-financial risks, including operational, compliance, and reputational risks. Focus on conducting quarterly Risk Assessment of Compliance risks in line with defined methodology for our Compliance risk catalogue.
  • Risk Mitigation: Support the business and especially the Compliance Department in the implementation of the Compliance Control Frameworks, policies and mandatory instructions. As a business partner, assist the various departments, especially Compliance Department, to identify risks, implement mitigating measures, executing key control activities and remediation of gaps identified.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor the implementation of the control monitoring plan and risk assessment plan and report the status to senior management. Monitor the risk profile of ING Americas and ensure it remains withing its risk appetite. Assist the team in the use of the GRC (Governance, Risk & Compliance) tool/application.
  • Training and Awareness: support the line manager in creating risk awareness and ensure timely implementation of group Compliance policies, control standards and mandatory instructions, while limiting the impact on the business.
  • Presentation and communication: Aid with development of presentations, communication and ad hoc analysis on topics related to Compliance risk and other non-financial risks
  • Regulatory: Keep up with regulatory and industry developments and trends in compliance risk management.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Financial Acumen: Basic understanding of financial reporting, financial markets, and corporate lending products, including associated risks, processes, procedures, key financial systems, controls, and objectives.
  • Risk Management Expertise: Knowledge of risk management principles, risk and control frameworks, methodologies, and tools within a financial services environment.
  • Professional Integrity: Trusted judgment and a strong work ethic, with a professional approach and the strength of character to follow up on concerns. Strong communication and persuasion skills, with the ability to adapt quickly to changing situations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to build a network of relationships with key stakeholders from business, compliance, and other second line of defense functions. Experience in communicating with all levels of internal management and presenting ideas in group meetings.
  • Technical Proficiency: Basic knowledge of the iRisk (IBM Open Pages) GRC application is preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Capable of learning quickly from documentation, analysis, and discussions with experts. Autonomous and highly self-motivated, with the ability to multitask productively and work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Team Collaboration: Demonstrate effective collaboration and teamwork skills to support team members.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail, willingness to "roll up sleeves," and ability to work under pressure while maintaining a positive and constructive mindset. Focused on delivering timely and high-quality results.
  • Project Management: Good project management skills with excellent organizational, follow-up, and time management abilities.
  • Continuous Learning: A keen interest in continuously developing expertise and knowledge.

Salary Range $85k-$107k
