Anthony - ITP Operations & Change
The world is most beautiful through people
Anthony has always been a big traveler. For him, travel was never just about places. It was a way of learning.
“You understand people and the world better when you experience it.”
From living in Europe to South America, Anthony built his path across cultures, experiences, and perspectives. Over time, one thing became clear for him: the most meaningful part of any journey isn’t the destination. It’s the people he meets along the way. Because beyond the projects and the learning curve, it’s the connections and what they reveal.
“I feel very Belgian at heart but shaped by many places.”
Turning doubt into strength
“In the past, it never occurred to me that I would wish to work in a bank.”
What has changed? The answer is the environment of ING. For him, every day in the International Talent Programme “(ITP)” confirms it. The culture, the people, the openness.
“You can reach out to anyone and people are always happy to share their expertise. That makes a big difference.”
It’s a place where curiosity is welcomed, and where colleagues make space for critical thinking.
“I ask a lot of questions.” He laughed.
For a long time, Anthony saw that as a weakness. He thought it meant he didn’t get things done fast enough. But in the ITP, that has provided a brand new perspective.
“Surprisingly, people tell me that I bring clarity, not just for myself, but for the team.”
Navigating complexity with empathy
Coming from outside banking, the environment felt complex, sometimes even overwhelming in the beginning. But Anthony has his own edge; he describes himself as empathetic and flexible.
“Living in different cultures teaches you how to connect with people.”
It builds something deeper than knowledge. It is awareness, confidence, and the ability to adapt. Today, that confirms one thing: he knows he’ll be okay in any environment. He can fit in and contribute. For Anthony, this is one of the biggest achievements of the ITP journey.
Capabilities over positions
“I don’t focus only on job titles anymore.”
The ITP shifted his mindset from positions to capabilities. And now he is focusing on the skills he is building.
Each rotation is intentional and each step adds something new. He even sees the programme as a story in three chapters: understanding the bank, understanding the clients, and understanding strategy at group level.
“It’s about building something that lasts.”
A few words for future ITP candidates
“Be curious, ask questions, even if you think they’re simple.”
For Anthony, curiosity is a way of working. The more you ask, the faster you learn and the more you can contribute.
“Challenge what you learn. Fresh perspectives matter a lot.”
He believes fresh perspectives are essential, especially in a complex environment like banking.
“Get out of your comfort zone as much as you can. That’s where everything happens.”
He encourages the future candidates to talk to new people, try things that they never tried before. Because that’s where the biggest personal growth happens.
