Beste - Customer Journey Expert and Product Owner
I look for constant personal and professional growth

“This job is all about knowing what the customer needs, and improving what the product can offer.” Beste moved from ING in Istanbul to Brussels in 2022. Today she is working as a Customer Journey Expert (CJE) and Product Owner.
All about the customer
The role of any CJE in digital is to make the customer feel engaged and connected, even without human intervention. In my case, that’s ensuring they have the best-in-class onboarding experience. It’s a matter of always trying to make things better.
As a CJE you have end-to-end responsibilities. It starts with driving the strategy and finding out what the customer needs, relying on various data. Then you start thinking about the journey, the sales, ... And then there’s the technology and the development of the product. You almost have a 360° view.
Front row seat
I have a bachelor degree in industrial engineering. A broad field but with a core mindset that fits in perfectly with what I do today. And that’s to optimise things and implement them. But I also have a master's degree in the finance field, which naturally connects me to ING’s financial landscape.
I love taking part in strategy and ideation. That’s how you can be at the forefront and create impact for the customer. By defining what our product should be and continuously seeking ways to enhance the customer journey, we create real value.
The power of a good CJE
In my squad, we build the team in a way to strengthen CJE’s on different skills. We share the same goals but we each bring our own profiles and ideas to the table. That’s how we get results. Our strength is our diversity.
Of course, that only works when each of us takes ownership of his or her responsibilities. That we live up to our part of the agreement and help each other out when needed. That’s how you build trust. First with the team, then with the customer.
How I met ING
I was working as a Product Owner for ING Turkey when I made the move to Brussels. ING really supports people looking for opportunities abroad. The choice for Belgium was not that hard. I had been here before, loved it and already had friends from Turkey who moved here before I did.
Brussels is a quiet city compared to Istanbul. Still, it was a big step to move to a new country and culture. For sure it has been a huge challenge. But I don’t like it when things are easy. It motivates me even more to get there.
My reasons to stay
I built a great life in Belgium, my husband is here too, and I made a lot of nice friends here. I feel at home. I have a strong connection with ING Belgium too. I love the international environment and I get to work on digital projects. Its challenges and evolution are never-ending.
