Looking for a challenging internship where you can contribute to the resilience of one of the largest financial institutions in the Netherlands?
At ING, Operational Resilience is high on the agenda. We are looking for an enthusiastic and analytical intern who wants to help strengthen ING Netherlands' preparedness for disruptions and crises, while gaining hands-on experience within a team that safeguards business continuity and resilience.

The Opportunity

During this 3-month internship, you will divide your time between strategic research and practical implementation activities:

  • 50% Scenario Preparedness Research
  • 50% Supporting the Operational Resilience & Business Continuity team

This role offers a unique opportunity to combine research, analysis and real-world business resilience activities within a dynamic financial services environment.

The Team
You will join the Operational Resilience & Business Continuity team within ING Netherlands. The team is responsible for strengthening ING's resilience by ensuring critical services can continue during disruptions and that recovery capabilities remain effective and fit for purpose.
You will work with colleagues across Risk, Business Continuity Management, Technology, Operations and other ING domains to help improve ING's resilience posture.

Role and responsibilities

Threat/Scenario Preparedness Research (50%)
You will perform a focused study on ING's preparedness for severe but plausible disruption scenarios. Examples may include:

  • Geopolitical or military conflicts
  • Long-term utility disruptions (power, telecom or water)
  • Pandemic and workforce disruption scenarios
  • Critical third-party outages
  • Technology and cyber disruption events
  • Your responsibilities include:
  • Researching industry practices, regulatory expectations and market developments
  • Analysing potential impact scenarios and resilience measures
  • Supporting the development of scenario-based preparedness approaches
  • Contributing to recommendations, reports and management presentations
  • Identifying opportunities to further strengthen resilience across ING NL

Operational Resilience & Business Continuity Activities (50%)

You will support the team in ongoing resilience improvement initiatives, including:

  • Supporting Business Continuity and Operational Resilience activities
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of resilience documentation and runbooks
  • Supporting resilience exercises, tests and simulations
  • Analysing findings and follow-up actions from resilience assessments
  • Contributing to management reporting and stakeholder communications
  • Collaborating with experts across business and technology teams

How to succeed
We are looking for a student who:

  • Is currently enrolled in a HBO or WO Bachelor/Master programme, preferably in:
  • Business Administration
  • Risk Management
  • Security Studies
  • Public Administration
  • Business Information Management
  • Technology Management
  • Or a related field
  • Has strong analytical and research skills
  • Is interested in Operational Resilience, Risk Management and Business Continuity
  • Is proactive, curious and eager to learn
  • Has strong communication skills in English (Dutch is a plus)
  • Is capable of working independently and collaboratively
