The Mission

As a Chapter Lead Full Stack Engineer, your mission is to design, build, and maintain scalable, maintainable, and user‑centric internal‑facing web applications that support ING’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) ambitions.

Alongside your hands‑on engineering contribution, you will also act as a People Manager, supporting the growth, engagement, and performance of engineers while contributing to delivery excellence.

Your Day‑to‑Day – Engineering Responsibilities

Working in ING’s sustainability tribe puts you in a unique position where you build internal platforms that provide colleagues and clients with the tools and insights needed to navigate the sustainability transition.

In this role, you will:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain full‑stack web applications with a strong focus on scalability, maintainability, and user experience
  • Build internal‑facing platforms that enable account managers and subject‑matter experts to engage directly with ING customers on sustainability‑related initiatives
  • Work in cross‑functional teams composed of Full Stack Engineers, Data Engineers, UX Engineers, and Data Analysts
  • Support data‑driven decision‑making by enabling the journey of ESG data from pipelines to insights and visualizations
  • Collaborate closely with data producers and consumers to ensure high‑quality, reliable, and meaningful data usage
  • Actively challenge, improve, and evolve existing technical solutions, architectures, and development processes
  • Take ownership of end‑to‑end delivery, from concept and implementation to operation and continuous improvement
  • Contribute to high engineering standards through clean code, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and best practices

People Management, Leadership & Capability Development

In addition to your engineering role, you will take on People Manager responsibilities, contributing to individual and team performance, engagement, and long‑term capability growth.

  • Act as direct manager for a group of engineers, supporting their professional development and engagement
  • Set clear objectives for individuals, follow up on progress, and provide continuous, actionable feedback
  • Conduct performance and development discussions in line with ING processes
  • Identify individual and team training needs and support learning and upskilling initiatives
  • Mentor and coach engineers, fostering both technical excellence and personal growth
  • Contribute to recruitment activities, including hiring, onboarding, and offboarding
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and psychologically safe team culture
  • Support the team through change and evolving priorities
  • Ensure alignment with ING policies, mandatory trainings, compliance requirements, and ways of working
  • Collaborate closely with other People Managers, Tech Leads, Product Owners, and HR partners

What You’ll Bring to the Team

Must‑have technical & professional skills

  • Ability to articulate complex problems in a clear and simple way
  • Ownership mindset with the ability to deliver end‑to‑end
  • Willingness to challenge existing solutions constructively
  • Open to feedback, with an egoless and growth‑oriented mindset
  • Strong frontend experience with React, Vite, Vitest, and Web Components
  • Proficiency in Java and Kotlin (JVM‑based languages)
  • Solid experience with automated testing (unit, integration, system)
  • Solid understanding and hands‑on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong understanding and practical use of software design patterns and object‑oriented programming
  • Experience working with relational databases
  • Understanding of UI/UX principles for building intuitive, user‑ and data‑driven features

People leadership & collaboration

  • Experience mentoring, coaching, or leading engineers in a formal or informal capacity
  • Ability to provide clear, constructive feedback and support performance conversations
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills
  • Ability to build trust, engagement, and collaboration within and across teams
  • Ownership mindset for both people outcomes and delivery results
  • Comfort supporting teams through change and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Experience with Spring Boot
  • Experience with Azure DevOps
  • Experience with MS SQL databases
  • Experience with Python
  • Experience as a Solution Architect
  • Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes in a cloud environment
  • Experience with data‑intensive products (analytics, insights, visualizations)
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary teams (DS, UX, DE, DA)
  • Interest or experience with ESG, sustainability, or socially impactful data domains
