The Mission

ING’s Payment and Settlement Services (“PSS”) aims to further mature, develop and expand ING’s state of the art payments platforms and settlements services. The PSS focusses on delivering payments and settlement services, meeting the expectations of ING’s business lines and beyond, whilst ensuring the basics: safe, secure, compliant, and reliable. The PSS is an independent unit within ING’s CTO domain, reporting directly into ING’s Chief Technology Officer.

PSS is responsible for providing standardized payments and settlements services around to multiple ING business lines (WB, Retail, and others). There is a clear ambition to also look for external commercialization of our payment platforms.

You will focus predominantly on the development and extension of the platform of the existing payment engine, APIs and microservices. These applications are written using Java, Spring frameworks (e.g., JPA, JMS, Streaming, Batch, etc.) and deployed via Azure DevOps pipeline.

Your day to day:

  • 5+ years of professional java experience (Java 11+, SpringBoot 3.x, Kafka, MQ);
  • Design and develop high-volume, low-latency applications for mission-critical systems;
  • Develop code and maintain associated documentation, in accordance with the functional and technical design;
  • Take initiative and identify inefficiencies or flaws and drive proposals for remediation;
  • Influence technology choices and architecture of newly build components and services;
  • Code review, knowledge sharing, testing.

What you'll bring to the team:

  • You hold a University/Master degree in information technology or similar;
  • Relevant experience designing Java based backend applications using following technologies, tooling, frameworks: Java EE, Spring, SpringBoot;
  • Experience with Kafka, Tomcat, Checkmarx is considered a plus;
  • Understanding messaging platforms (i.e., Kafka, EMS, ActiveMQ and/or IBM MQ);
  • Familiar with:
    • monitoring tools (Grafana, Kibana, Prometheus);
    • CI & CD, code quality (Azure DevOps, Sonar);
    • Relational databases (Oracle).
  • Experience in working using the Agile methodology;
  • Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English.

Nice to have:

  • Previous experience in banking;
  • OpenShift or any container orchestration solution;
  • Experience in network components and infrastructure;
  • Having experience in financial application development.
