Role Summary

As a Chapter Lead – Data & AI Engineering, you will lead a community of Data Engineers, ML Engineers, and AI specialists, ensuring technical excellence and strong engineering standards across the chapter. You will be responsible for building and safeguarding expertise in data platforms, machine learning systems, and AI solutions while enabling scalable, secure, and high-impact delivery aligned with our strategy.

In addition to your technical leadership, you will play a key role in developing people, strengthening engineering culture, and fostering an environment of continuous learning and innovation.

About the Team

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary engineering environment working closely with squads, tribes, and global stakeholders. The Data & AI Engineering chapter plays a critical role in enabling advanced analytics, machine learning, and innovative AI use cases across ING.

You bring:

  • Proven experience leading engineering teams in Data, Machine Learning, or AI domains
  • Strong understanding of modern data platforms, ML systems, and AI technologies
  • Hands-on experience with data pipelines, cloud environments, and scalable architectures
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop engineering talent
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to align technical capabilities with business priorities
  • Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills across teams and domains
  • A passion for innovation, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a chapter of Data & AI engineers, supporting their growth through coaching, mentoring, and performance management while fostering a strong engineering culture
  • Define and drive engineering standards, best practices, and reusable patterns across data platforms, machine learning systems, and AI/GenAI solutions
  • Ensure high-quality, scalable, and secure delivery of data pipelines, ML models, and AI applications in collaboration with architects, tech leads, and cross-functional teams
  • Contribute hands-on to complex or high-impact initiatives when needed, while ensuring consistent and reliable delivery across squads
  • Align chapter capacity and capabilities with organizational priorities, working closely with Product and Tribe Leads
  • Build and strengthen Data & AI capabilities by driving roadmap initiatives, identifying skill gaps, and leading upskilling efforts
  • Promote modern engineering practices and tools, while driving continuous improvement and innovation
  • Collaborate with other Chapter Leads and global stakeholders to ensure alignment on standards, capabilities, and strategic initiatives
