Senior Legal Counsel - Retail Banking - 12M FTC

ING Australia is investing in the growth  of our retail banking offerings, particularly in the mortgage domain, with a focus on delivering new green banking products. To help aid this growth we’re on the hunt for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel in the retail banking sector. If you have an interest in sustainability and green finance and understanding of industry best practice in this growing area, we would love to hear from you.


In this role you will have responsibility for providing legal advice with a particular focus on its retail banking business, specifically mortgages and consumer credit. Its scope includes providing legal advice and legal risk management support in relation to consumer credit, FSR, product development and marketing.

Working in this role means working in a highly dynamic international, changeable and challenging environment where you will work closely together with professional and driven colleagues in a friendly atmosphere.

What you’ll do

  • Provide concise, comprehensive legal advice and legal risk management support which ensures that the company makes decisions from a position of legal and regulatory clarity
  • Structure legal advice in such a way as to allow for constructive commercial decisions to be made, with an emphasis not only on activities which are limited by legislation and regulation, but also the positive options and alternatives which are permissible
  • Identify all legal risk in a timely manner
  • Integrate, co-operate and leverage the regional ING legal function to the benefit of ING Australia
  • Participate in special projects or working groups relating to ING’s business strategy


What we’re looking for

  • A law degree and be an admitted solicitor
  • Preferably a minimum of 10 years post admission experience gained in private practice, an Australian bank or relevant financial services organisation
  • Proven record of achievement at the highest levels of the legal profession.
  • Extensive experience in Retail Banking and Financial Services, including key legislation and regulations such as the Corporations Act, Banking Code of Practice, ePayments Code, NCCP Act, AML and CTF Act, ASIC act etc.
