Chapter Lead Feature Engineer – Enterprise Content & Automation Belgium (EC&A BE)

Your role

This is an opportunity to shape a multidisciplinary chapter, develop talented people, and influence how EC&A delivers sustainable solutions across its portfolio.

As Chapter Lead Feature Engineer within Enterprise Content & Automation Belgium (EC&A BE), you lead a multidisciplinary chapter of Feature Consultants, IT Integrators, and Business Analysts that supports delivery across multiple products and squads. The Feature Engineer chapter serves as a centre of expertise, translating business needs into scalable, compliant, and future-proof solutions while promoting consistency and collaboration across the organisation.

You are responsible for growing talent, strengthening product delivery capabilities, and ensuring alignment between business priorities, architecture, risk, financial objectives, and technology strategy. 

You will work alongside Product Leads, Engineering Leads, Architects, Risk, Finance, and global colleagues, with access to specialist expertise across the organisation.

The chapter operates across a broad portfolio including Signing, Global Content Interaction, Active Dossier Management, Workflow Management, Storage, Archiving and strategic simplification and migration initiatives.  

As a Chapter Lead, you combine people leadershipdelivery expertisestrategic thinkingfinancial awareness, and risk management to help EC&A deliver sustainable business outcomes.

Enterprise Content & Automation Belgium (EC&A BE) is part of the Global Tribe Enterprise Content & Automation (EC&A). EC&A delivers reusable content, document management, signing, archiving, workflow, and automation capabilities across ING. Products are consumed across Retail Banking, Wholesale Banking, Business Banking, and Group Functions and are delivered through a global operating model spanning Belgium, the Netherlands, and engineering hubs.

What you'll do

Lead and develop the Feature Engineer chapter

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Feature Consultants, IT Integrators, and Business Analysts.
  • Foster employee engagement and support performance management, talent development, recruitment, and succession planning.
  • Create a culture of ownership, collaboration, continuous learning, and delivery excellence. 
  • Help chapter members build the skills needed to support current and future business priorities.

Strengthen professional practices and delivery

  • Establish best practices in requirements engineering, solution design, system integration, architecture, and delivery. 
  • Promote standardisation and re-use across products and squads. 
  • Support delivery teams in solving complex business and technology challenges. 
  • Promote simplification, maintainability, and operational excellence across the portfolio. 
  • Enable continuous improvement and support the adoption of AI-enabled practices.

Strengthen cross-product delivery

  • Act as the owner of the Feature Engineer craft within EC&A BE.
  • Enable consistent delivery practices across products and squads. 
  • Facilitate collaboration between Product Leads, Engineering Leads, Architects, Risk, Finance, and delivery teams. 
  • Ensure business requirements are translated into scalable and sustainable solutions. 
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives, migrations, modernisation programmes, and simplification efforts.

Strengthen risk, governance, and financial management

  • Help shape investment priorities and resource allocation across the portfolio. 
  • Support Dynamic Planning (DP), annual budgeting, and financial forecasting processes. 
  • Strengthen a culture of risk awareness and accountability.
  • Ensure risks, dependencies, technical debt, and compliance obligations are properly identified and managed. 
  • Support audit remediation, vulnerability management, resilience initiatives, and improvements to controls.
  • Contribute to governance forums through clear reporting focused on outcomes and data-driven decision-making.

Contribute to strategic transformation

  • Support EC&A’s transition towards a product-oriented operating model.
  • Promote collaboration with Global EC&A, ING Belgium, and engineering hubs. 
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leadership teams and stakeholders. 
  • Help shape the future capabilities of EC&A through innovation, simplification, automation, and AI adoption.

  • Knowledge of agile product development and DevOps practices. 

Finance, Risk & Governance

  • Strong understanding of technology financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and investment governance. 
  • Experience with the Dynamic Planning (DP) cycle and translating strategic objectives into delivery, staffing, and investment plans. 
  • Ability to assess trade-offs between business value, delivery objectives, risk exposure, and financial constraints. 
  • Experience with operational risk management, audit remediation, vulnerability management, resilience, and compliance processes. 
  • Strong governance mindset with experience supporting management reporting, KPI tracking, and executive decision-making. 

Strategic Thinking

  • Ability to balance short-term delivery objectives with long-term technology strategy. 
  • Ability to identify simplification, optimisation, and cost-efficiency opportunities.

Bonus skills & experience

The ideal candidate additionally brings experience in one or more of the following areas: 

  • Knowledge of the EC&A domain, including content management, workflow, document processing, signing, archiving, or automation.
  • Practical experience applying AI-enabled engineering or automation practices.

The team

You will lead the Feature Engineer Chapter, a cross-product chapter of approximately 10 FTE serving the entire EC&A Belgium portfolio. The chapter consists of Feature Consultants, IT Integrators, and Business Analysts who help ensure consistent delivery, architecture alignment, business-technology integration, governance, and effective execution across EC&A. The chapter plays a critical role in connecting business priorities, technology strategy, risk considerations, and financial objectives to successful delivery outcomes.

Location: Brussels 
Role level: Chapter Lead Feature Engineer 
Team scope: Approximately 10 FTE in a cross-product Feature Engineer chapter serving all EC&A BE product areas.
