Oracle DBaaS Product Manager (ING Private Cloud)

Aplikuj

In the Data Services area of tribe Cloud, a position of Product Manager (Product Owner) for the Oracle DBaaS platform has become available.

The team

The purpose of the Global Tribe Cloud is to build and run the target infrastructure platform in a (private) cloud delivery model. This delivery model is based on multi-tenant, self-service, pay-per-use capabilities for application/consumer DevOps teams.

Tribe Cloud comprises five Global Areas:

  • Infrastructure as a Service
  • Data Services
  • Container Services
  • Cloud API Management
  • Integration Services

The Oracle DBaaS platform is a key part of the ING Private Cloud and area Data Services. The >4000 Oracle databases that run on this platform are at the core of numerous critical business services of ING organizations worldwide. About 50 people in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland and India are working on this platform. If you want to make an impact on the IT infrastructure of ING or if you are attracted to the idea of working as product manager on one of the biggest Oracle database environments in the Netherlands, this is the place to be.

As Product Manager you define the strategy of your service, set the intermediate goals and prioritize the work. Together with 5 other product managers, the central product manager, architect and IT Area Lead we ensure the platform is reliable, secure and ready for further growth. Each product manager takes responsibility for one or more squads, and each squad develops and maintains a part of the Oracle DBaaS platform. We are now searching for a product manager for the Monitoring & Observability squad, which consists of 7 engineers in Katowice (PL). Once in a while we rotate the product managers over the different parts of the platform. So, in the future other parts of the Oracle DBaaS platform can become your responsibility, for example Reliability, Hardware, API or Core development.

For most of our monitoring & observability needs we rely on Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM). OEM is used by our own DBaaS teams for monitoring and alerting of our hardware and databases, as well by our consumers for monitoring and alerting for their PDBs.

Our strategy is to be less dependent for monitoring & observability on one specific tool. We want to deliver our observability and alerting capabilities via other available (standardized) tools available within ING. A new initiative for the Monitoring & Observability squad is to create and maintain the reports provided to our consumers. These reports are created to show compliancy with our best-practices and guidance and provide insights in the SLI’s of DBaaS platform. We are also running an initiative to use AI to predict any future issues.

You take ownership for the agreed solutions and delivery, and communicate clearly about any impediments, delays or requests for help. There is one central product manager that covers the whole of the Oracle DBaaS platform. This is someone you will work with a lot.

HR responsibility of the engineers is not with you, as that responsibility is with chapter leads.

Key responsibilities

  • Facilitate your squad to maintain and update OEM. You prioritize, provide clarity and take away impediments.
  • Take ownership of the backlog by creating user stories and features. We use Azure DevOps.
  • Manage risk on the service/product you provide.
  • Creation of a strategy to further integrate the Oracle DBaaS platform into standardized ING tooling for monitoring & observability
  • Keep the stakeholders informed on the roadmap and the progress of the deliveries. This includes communication on impediments and incidents. Facilitate consumer boards.
  • Work together with our chapter leads to make sure the squad consists of the right people and is performing well.

How to succeed

You are an energetic and proactive Product Manager with a positive mentality. A complex and challenging environment is something that gives you the energy to be the best version of yourself. You are a natural team player who forms relationships based on social skills rather than hierarchical structure. You can easily switch context from engineers to auditors to senior management. You will be one of the leads of the Oracle DBaaS platform, so we expect you do not have a problem with speaking in front of a 20-30 people or with getting to know new people. We work in a very international environment.

We are searching for someone that has:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Product Manager/ Product Owner or Project/Program Manager, in an international, complex, technology focused agile environment.
  • Experience within the IT infrastructure domain is a must. Ideally, that experience would be with (Oracle) databases, Exadata hardware, Oracle Enterprise Manager or observability tooling.
  • Appetite to travel to Poland (Katowice) for 2-3 days each quarter.

Further, we have some other things on our wishlist, though we would understand you might not tick every box:

  • Experience with backlog management in Azure DevOps.
  • Experience in analysis, strong documentation skills and good ability to break down requirements into epics and user stories.
  • An inspiring passion in your presentations and in interactions with stakeholders.
  • Experience with infrastructure within ING or with our ING Private Cloud (IPC) is an advantage. Of course we do not expect this from candidates coming from outside ING.
  • Higher (technical) education. Or work experience that demonstrates you operate on this level.
  • Excellent command of English language. Dutch and/or Polish language skills would be beneficial but are not a hard requirement.
