Audit Specialist (Wholesale Banking Corporate Audit Services) – Bratislava, Full-time

Are you an experienced auditor with a strong understanding of wholesale banking and financial services? Do you enjoy analysing complex processes, challenging established practices and helping organizations strengthen their governance and control environment?

Join ING Corporate Audit Services (CAS) and take a leading role in providing independent assurance across key banking processes and risks. You will work in an international environment, collaborate with stakeholders across multiple countries, and contribute to improving the effectiveness of governance, risk management and control frameworks throughout the organization

The team
Corporate Audit Services (CAS) is ING’s independent internal audit function. Our mission is to provide objective assurance and valuable insights that support ING in achieving its strategic objectives while maintaining a strong control environment.

As an Audit Specialist III, you will be part of an international audit team covering Wholesale Banking activities across the CEE region and other ING locations. You will be expected to work with a high degree of autonomy while leading and managing audit assignments across multiple countries and business functions.

Audits are performed as part of international teams, requiring close collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders across multiple countries and functions. Audit coverage includes areas such as Lending Services, Credit Risk Management, Payment Processing, Treasury, Finance, Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Operational Risk and other key banking processes. The role involves approximately 4–6 weeks of travel per year.

Roles and responsibilities
As an Audit Specialist III, you will independently lead and execute audit assignments while working closely with stakeholders across ING.

You will:

  • Lead and coordinate audit assignments throughout the audit lifecycle, including planning, fieldwork, reporting and issue follow-up.

  • Perform risk assessments and develop risk-based Audit Work Programmes in accordance with methodology.

  • Execute audits by assessing the design and operating effectiveness of key controls.

  • Evaluate compliance with applicable laws, regulations, internal policies and relevant banking standards.

  • Conduct audit interviews and facilitate opening, progress and closing meetings with stakeholders.

  • Identify control deficiencies, assess associated risks and develop well-supported audit findings and conclusions.

  • Perform first-level review of audit work to ensure sufficient evidence, appropriate documentation and compliance with quality standards.

  • Prepare clear, concise and impactful audit reports and management communications.

  • Communicate audit results, recommendations and key risks to senior management and other stakeholders.

  • Provide practical and value-adding recommendations to enhance governance, risk management, control frameworks and operational effectiveness.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with business and functional stakeholders while providing independent challenge where appropriate.

  • Support the Local Head of CAS in activities such as planning, issue validation, stakeholder management and other ad hoc requirements.

  • Coach and support junior auditors, providing guidance, feedback and contributing to their professional development.

  • Ensure adherence to internal audit methodology, quality assurance standards and professional auditing practices at all times.

You will be successful in this role if you:

  • Have extensive experience in internal audit, wholesale banking, risk management, lending or a related financial services environment.

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of wholesale banking products, services and associated risks.

  • Can independently lead complex assignments and confidently engage with senior stakeholders.

  • Apply strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.

  • Communicate complex topics clearly through impactful reports, presentations and discussions.

  • Thrive in an international and collaborative environment while maintaining high professional and ethical standards.

Additionally, you bring:

  • University degree (Master's degree preferred, ideally in Economics, Finance or a related field).

  • Professional certification such as CIA, ACCA, CISA, CFA or equivalent (preferred).

  • Minimum 6 years of Internal Audit experience within Wholesale Banking, or at least 8 years of combined experience in Wholesale Banking, Risk Management, Lending, Big 4 or Internal Audit.

  • Fluent English and Slovak language skills (C1 level or higher).
