Through an internship in ING’s Sector organization, you’ll have the opportunity to get to know ING, a specific Sector and the services it provides, what it is like to be a full-time banker and whether this is an industry for you to pursue your career in.

The team

The Telecom, Media and Technology & Healthcare Sector Coverage team offers an exciting position in Amsterdam for an ambitious student who enjoys working in an international environment. The TMT & Healthcare sector team is one of the global specialist sector coverage teams at the heart of ING Wholesale Banking. We provide banking services and structure complex financing solutions (Debt and Debt advisory) to telecommunication, media, entertainment, technology, satellite, and healthcare companies in the EMEA region, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific. We have a broad client suite (investment and non-investment grade companies, private equity, infrastructure funds, etc.) which means you will get exposure to corporate, acquisition, capex, and project finance financing structures. We cooperate with various other departments within ING such as Corporate Finance, Sustainable Finance, Loan Distribution Group, Debt Capital Markets, Financial Markets, Transaction Services, and Risk Management.

Roles and responsibilities

The companies we cover in Amsterdam are active in the Telecommunication, Media, Entertainment, Technology, Satellite, and Healthcare sub-sectors. As an intern, you will be a member of multiple deal teams involved in transactions where you, for example, advise clients to finance data centers, fibre networks, or private hospitals. You work most closely together with team members in Amsterdam, but we also have TMT&H professionals in Frankfurt, Paris, Zurich, Madrid, Sydney, Singapore, Hong-Kong, Taiwan, Tokyo, Brussels, Milan and New York. As an Intern your job will be diverse, but your main tasks consist of the below:

  • Contribute to deal origination efforts by analyzing financial information, doing market research, peer group analysis, reviewing information memorandums and/or term sheets, and/or drafting commercial proposals
  • Assist in multiproduct pitches to TMT & Healthcare clients and presentations to relevant internal and external stakeholders for eg. subsector risk papers and deep-dive presentations
  • Assist in debt sizing, analysing different transaction (debt) structures and preparing business comparables
  • Assist in formulating client strategies and developing and maintaining close relationships with clients
  • Conduct research to support new and ongoing initiatives aimed at building sector expertise, exploring key drivers, competitors, products and macro trends
  • Support franchise growth by identifying prospective clients across the various subsectors and prepare business plan proposal(s)
  •  Work closely with the senior management team and help organize client events or international (sub)sector conferences.

  • Master student, preferably in the field of Economics, Econometrics, or Finance
  • Currently living or willing to relocate to Amsterdam/Randstad Area
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking (modelling and pitching skills are a plus), detail-oriented team-player who is proactive and takes responsibilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including communication, confidence in public speaking and (multidisciplinary) collaboration
  • Self-motivated and willing to work in a client centric and commercially driven environment
  • High proficiency in English (verbal and written), Dutch is a plus but not required
  • Familiar with MS Office, especially PowerPoint and Excel (familiarity with Capital IQ and researching tools are a plus)
  • Familiarity with the TMT or Healthcare sectors in Europe is helpful, a genuine interest is crucial

The role concerns a Hybrid role, for which you are required to be present in the office for a minimum of 4 days.
