The Team: Commercial Financing (ComFin)

ComFin is part of Business Banking and provides working capital to clients based on debtors and inventory (asset based). Characteristic for asset-based lending is that the amount of the loan is primarily based on the value of the customers’ collateral as opposed to financing that is primarily based on the firm and its credit worthiness.The factoring market is a rapidly growing market globally, enabled by the rise of new technologies. ComFin has the ambition to expand growth in the SME segment, especially through the application of digital channels.

ComFin NL has started a transformation program Factor10 to future-proof its IT landscape and enable further growth opportunities. This includes renewal of its core IT platform, new product development, deeper integration in ING Business Banking customer- and employee journeys and redesigning ComFin be responsible for and part of, is located in the Netherlands, India and Manilla. Your official work location will be based out of Bunnik, NL but it will be changed to Utrecht,NL later this year.

Roles and responsibilities

As Backend Engineer, you are a key player in the cooperation between engineers, product owners, customer journey experts and other stakeholders. Your main responsibilities in this position will involve:

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust IT solutions with a primary emphasis on reliability and security.
  • Participate in code reviews and technical discussions to maintain high-quality code and ensure that code aligns with product goals and industry standards.
  • Ensure compliancy of the application following IT RISK standard processes.

You are a hardcore Java developer who has experience with Spring-boot (ideally ING’s Merak framework), Maven, Azure DevOps and containerization (docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).

Your education, experience and background:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science.
  • 5+ years of experience in development.
  • You are well experienced in Java, and you enjoy coming up with solutions
  • Excellent knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming and Design Patterns
  • Excellent knowledge of Java 21+, Git, Maven
  • Deep knowledge and experience with Spring Boot and Spring Framework.
  • Knowledge of Micro-Services architecture, dispersion services, scalability, container technologies: Docker, OpenShift
  • Experience in CI/CD tooling preferably with Azure DevOps
  • Experience with cross cultural and cross time zone collaboration 
  • Experience in Agile / Scrum / DevOps methodologies
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changes in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong team player skills, empowering and challenging the squad members in a constructive way.

Nice to have:

  • Performance/Capacity/Availability Monitoring knowledge of well-known tools in this area (Grafana, Prometheus, etc.) is a big bonus
  • Experience with performance testing (Gatling).
  • Experience and thorough understanding of (test) automation, continuous delivery, deployment tools, and pipelines. We work with Git, Azure Repos, Azure Pipelines, Ansible, Checkmarx, Azure Artifacts
  • Great analytical skills and conceptual/architectural understanding, ability to quickly understand new technical concepts that are outside of your comfort zone
  • The ability to transfer knowledge back to the ING Bank by holding presentations, workshops, documentation, and most important: setting new standards for the ways we do tech
  • Experience with working in multidisciplinary teams and agile way of working
  • To handle application risk controls efficiently, proactively contributing to preventing security and operational risks.
