Model Risk Oversight tribe (MRO) is an energetic, international, and diverse team of highly qualified Model Risk Managers in Amsterdam and Warsaw. MRO is responsible for the design and implementation of ING’s global Model Risk Management (MoRM) framework and tooling across all models used within ING Bank worldwide. The tribe aims to proactively manage model risks by guiding global and local communities in the execution of the model lifecycle activities, performing effective and efficient 2nd Line of Defence (LoD) challenge and oversight across ING’s model landscape, monitoring and reporting on model risks.

Following model risk regulations’ evolution, market practices and years of experience from of ING’s MoRM Framework implementation, MRO is constantly reshaping the vision of its framework to stay ahead of the banking industry and regulatory environment, focusing on increasing the collaboration with the 1st LoD as a pro-active and independent strategic partner.

The team

  • MRO is part of the Model Risk Management Function, and the tribe is composed by 3 focus areas: Framework and Governance (F&G), Model Risk portfolio management, and model risk reporting and tooling. F&G Chapter designs and maintains the global Model Risk Management Framework (MoRMF) and acts as CoE for the MoRM Policy House, acting as an advisor to all model stakeholders to ensure the effective compliance to the MoRM policy and procedures across the whole organization – on central (headquarters) as well as local (country) levels.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Lead on the different initiatives defined for the F&G Chapter to support the MRO Tribe strategy. Such initiatives are mainly related to MoRM Framework updates, Control Standards design and maintenance, Model Risk Appetite design, MoRM general trainings development and roll-out, Annual review of the model approval delegated authorities, etc.

  • As a F&G model risk expert, perform BAU activities such as acting as MoRM representative towards other risk functions within ING, run the model risk appetite annual review cycle, model risk emerging risks identification process, and review/sign-off of model risk related documents to ensure compliance with MoRM Framework and ING Governance.        

  • Act as an advisor to MoRM colleagues and broader model stakeholders with regards to MoRM framework compliance.

  • Contribute to the organization’s efforts in responding and reporting to regulatory bodies in MoRM Framework and Governance topics.

You:

  • Have an academic degree (MSC) in Finance, Economics, Risk, Business Administration or another quantitative/modelling related field.

  • Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Have strong project management skills to lead long term initiatives under a program setup.

  • Have strong stakeholder management skills, including experience managing communication and influencing senior stakeholders. Good listener and interviewer, receptive to the feedback from the stakeholders.

  • Are persuasive and able to explain policy requirements and their applications in simple language to senior stakeholders.

  • At least 5-10 years of experience working in the financial industry in model related topics, either on a specific model domain or within financial and non-financial risk management background, or internal control framework background or, experience in general model risk management topics across any of the 3 LoDs. Good understanding of the regulatory requirements of the bank, EBA guidelines, and MoRM framework principles and regulations (SR 11-7, PRA, etc.) is a plus.

  • Excellent English verbal and writing skills.

  • Willing to travel to other ING locations occasionally.
