To guide architecture vision, People & Hubs Tech (P&H Tech) is seeking a highly skilled Chief Architect. The Chief Architect will play a crucial role in translating the business vision and direction into actionable target architectures and roadmaps to meet our customer’s needs in the present and the future.

The team

Chief Architect is a global role that reports hierarchically to the CIO of P&H Tech and functionally to the Global Head of Tech Strategy & Enterprise Architecture. The Chief Architect manages a team of Enterprise and Domain Architects. The Chief Architect has the business, technical, and leadership skills to create the designs for solutions and/or references, in response to the strategic business needs of the entire enterprise. The Chief Architect is the trusted advisor for executive management.

Role and responsibilities

You will bring in the broad global perspective when it comes to problem-solving and building solutions and will be able to make convincing, evidence-based decisions. You will be translating important factors of the organization and the future possibilities into concrete strategic plans. As a manager, you exude vitality, strength, energy, and enthusiasm. You’ll be able to inspire the team, raising the bar by continually building their craftsmanship and skills and introducing them to new and emerging technologies as they become relevant. You’ll have a passion for quality and be uncompromising when it comes to delivering the highest quality solutions. You have excellent communication skills and the ability to successfully manage the stakeholder landscape.

Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

  • Set the architecture strategic direction of People & Hubs by working with the Management team consisted of IT Leads and the CIO.
  • Driving the execution of future state P&H Tech architectures and Roadmaps.
  • Setting global standard architectures and cooperates with other domains.
  • Managing the team of domain architects and acts as a sparring partner to the CIO and the Enterprise Architects.
  • Initiates and leads architectural Epics/Features at own initiative.
  • Provides subject-matter expert assistance when the architectural vision goes to execution mode, to ensure adherence to that architectural vision.
  • Provides architecture guidance to Senior level management (including COO and CIO) of P&H Tech and interacts with Senior management of related domains.
  • Represents ING towards relevant external parties (peers in other banks, regulators, IT industry peers, and academic researchers) for architectural topics.
  • Initiates and leads market, vendor challenges. Knows the latest global scale developments on technology.
  • Drives the architecture guild and continuous improvement of the Agile Way of Working.
  • Is the ING authority for multiple strategic partners within ING. Develops in cooperation with the supplier, requirements for future standard package solutions. Steers the strategic development of the supplier.

About you

  • M.Sc. education in computer science or a related area.
  • 10+ years’ professional experience at management level in an IT architecture / banking environment is a must.
  • You have extensive knowledge of continuous delivery, IT banking systems in an overall integrated context
  • Ability to convey your technical and complex ideas in an engaging and understandable way.
  • Proven track record of developing and operating strategic infrastructure services in a large enterprise.
  • Proven experience with the Agile Way of Working in a diverse matrix international environment.
  • Ability to build strategic roadmaps.
  • Innovative thinker with a passion for problem-solving.
  • Stakeholder management experience.
  • Expertise in driving and steering multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven experience in strategic projects with high impact.
  • Excellent level of English.
