In your role as a Sustainability Consultant Intern within the CoE Customer Insights & Sustainability in Global Retail, you will provide advice and support for the ESG strategy across three retail segments: Private Individuals (PI), Business Banking (BB), and Private Banking & Wealth Management (PB&WM) across ING’s retail markets.

The team

The CoE Customer Insights & Sustainability is part of the Global Retail organization and reports directly to the Head of Retail Banking. The team collaborates closely with other departments such as Global Sustainability, Retail Strategy, Retail Finance, and Global Business Banking.

With 32 million active customers across Europe, Australia, and Turkey, and a mortgage portfolio of €430 billion, INGs size and scope position us to significantly impact the global transition to a low-carbon economy and a sustainable future. Our aim as CoE Sustainability is to seamlessly embed ESG into our business-as-usual practices, aligning our operations with our ESG ambitions.

Our ambition focuses on environmental impact across four areas:

  • Net Zero Housing: Develop and standardize mortgage pathways to Net Zero.
  • Financial Health: Solidify financial health measurement methodology and increase communication on the topic.
  • Sustainable Finance Business Banking: Refresh Business Banking ESG Strategy.
  • Sustainable Assets under Management: Set up measurement and KPIs for Assets under Management.

Roles and responsibilities

As an intern, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the development of strategy in collaboration with retail segments.
  • Driving the establishment and consistent measurement of ESG initiatives across retail markets.
  • Coordinating cross-country ESG initiatives.
  • Developing and promoting a sustainability culture across the retail organization.
  • Understanding technology, regulation, and industry best practices.

Educational Background: Bachelor's or Master's degree in progress in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Business, Finance, or a related field. Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience: Previous experience or internships in sustainability, ESG, or related fields is a plus.

Attributes: Passion for sustainability, ability to work in a team, and a proactive and self-motivated attitude.
