As a intern in the Financial Risk Officer team specializing in Interest Rate Risk in the Banking Book (IRRBB), you will play a crucial role in managing and mitigating financial risks for ING. You will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, controlling, monitoring, and reporting on financial risks, with a focus on interest rate risk. You will work closely with senior risk management and the 1st  Line of Defence to ensure effective risk management at portfolio, and balance sheet levels.

The Team

You will work in the Banking Risk tribe within the Financial Risk department, contributing to the worldwide management of market risks that affect ING Group’s consolidated balance sheet. You will work in a dynamic international corporate environment with professional colleagues who continually challenge each other to achieve the best results.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Support IRRBB chapter in Identifying, analysing, and quantifying interest rate risk for entire ING globally.
  • Support in implementation of new regulations and risk systems for IRRBB. Further, provide active support in enhancing existing setup for IRRBB analytics and insights platforms.
  • Perform data analysis, statistical modelling, and programming tasks to assess model performance and suitability.
  • Support the preparation of power BI dashboard, documenting processes/findings, and support in resolving model validation/audit findings/
  • Stay up to date with industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends in model risk management.
  • Provide support to senior risk management and the 1st Line of Defence in managing and reducing financial risks.

  • Optimizing Data processing, IRRBB risk system enhancement, IRRBB Risk dashboarding, IRRBB Analysis and Reporting - 65 %
  • Gaining knowledge and experience in the ALM, IRRBB models - 25 %
  • Interact with mentors - 10 %

We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues who enjoy performing quantitative analyses, writing & defending high quality validation reports, and have an intrinsic curiosity to continuously expand their knowledge. In particular, as a member of our team, you are:

  • Available for 36 hours per week
  • Enrolled in a Dutch university for the entire duration of the internship.
  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree in a quantitative field, such as Econometrics, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Equipped with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, demonstrating a keen interest in quantitative analysis and modeling.
  • Comfortable with programming languages such as Python, Power BI, R, enabling you to handle data and conduct analyses efficiently.
  • Possessing a good understanding of statistical concepts and quantitative methods, providing a solid foundation for risk modeling.
  • Exhibiting good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Proactive with the ability to work independently and collaborating effectively within a team environment.
