A day in the life of a Chapter Lead Architect

Lead a chapter of domain architects, set the standards for the chapter area, and take responsibility for developing, innovating, and safeguarding knowledge in the field of expertise. Develop and lead people to meet both their individual goals and career goals, as well as the organization's goals. Translate business vision and strategy into effective enterprise change by creating, communicating, and improving the key principles and models that describe the future state and enable its evolution to deliver IT Architecture for the organization and its customers.

The chapter lead role takes about 50% of your time. The remaining 50% will be spent contributing to and maintaining the end-to-end architecture for a domain, performing architecture design for epics and features of the domain with attention to non-functional requirements, ensuring optimal integration with other domains and platforms, maintaining a good balance between cost and quality, advising on implementation planning, and providing guidance to solution architects and engineers on execution according to architectural design. While the ideal candidate is an architect, CoE Architecture is open to candidates with an engineering background with an understanding of architecture, who is willing to develop her or his skills.

How to succeed

You are a colleague with a talent for taking initiative and making things happen, enthusiastic about helping others succeed, and always a step ahead. In other words, you strive to bring fresh ideas to life and embrace challenges in a fast-changing and complex environment. You are naturally collaborative, listen actively, and invest in others to achieve common goals. You are proactive, love to challenge the status quo, and are eager to propose creative solutions to problems.

As a Chapter Lead Architect, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Contribute to and maintain a roadmap to facilitate application software development and ensure that development work is prioritized in line with business requirements.
  • Support the delivery of the target architecture/solution whilst understanding debt and time constraints. Escalate issues to management as needed.
  • Motivate and support the growth of all members of a small team using equitable approaches to performance management and development, that may be differentiated to support each employee's unique needs and preferences in order to bring out their best and meet business needs.

The team

You will be part of the CoE Architecture, a team of about 70 internal and external architects, led by the ING Belgium Chief Architect who reports directly to the CIO of ING Belgium. You will be involved on strategic initiatives and have the ability to influence the evolution of ING Belgium’s IT landscape and contribute to its steering.

Depending on your interests and business needs, you will be assigned to one or more domains of the bank. The work is carried out in an Agile way of working with a significant international collaboration with ING teams present on other countries.
