Your role & work environment

ING’s ambition is to become the best European Wholesale Bank, powered by its global network, deep sector expertise and focus on sustainability. We are looking for a visionary and results-driven Head of Business Development to lead the strategic growth of our Wholesale Banking division. This role is pivotal in shaping and executing the business development strategy, driving digital transformation, and embedding a data-driven, end-to-end commercial mindset across the organisation.

Whilst playing a key role in the evolution of Wholesale Banking BeLux, you will be a strategic advisor, a senior transformation manager and a sounding board to the Head of Wholesale Banking. You will be a member of the local Wholesale Banking Management Team, managing a team of transformation managers and covering responsibilities across a broad range of topics. Based in Brussels (Marnix), you will work with every level of the organization – both in Belgium and around the globe.

Your key responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Advisory

  • Define and implement the Wholesale Banking business development strategy, aligned with long-term growth ambitions. Ensure robust structures for follow-up and accountability.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and sounding board to the Head of Wholesale Banking, providing strategic insights and “taking the pulse” of the business.
  • Lead and prepare key management meetings, ensuring alignment and clarity across stakeholders.

Commercial Excellence & E2E Efficiency

  • Promote an end-to-end commercial mindset across the organisation, leveraging tools such as Salesforce and other CRM platforms.
  • Streamline sales, client engagement and support processes to enhance efficiency, transparency, and impact.

Data-Driven Transformation

  • Champion the shift towards a data-driven organisation by harmonising reporting frameworks and embedding analytics into decision-making.
  • Drive the use of data to uncover growth opportunities, improve client engagement, and monitor performance.

Digital Roadmap Ownership

  • Define and lead the digital transformation roadmap for Wholesale Banking, focusing on client experience, operational efficiency, and innovation.
  • Evaluate and implement digital solutions that support strategic goals and future-proof the business.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as a key liaison between Wholesale Banking Belgium and other departments within ING Belgium (e.g. operations, IT, bank-wide transformation office) and the broader Wholesale Banking Group.
  • Ensure alignment and collaboration across functions to support business development initiatives.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Build and lead a high-performing team, focusing on their development and maximizing their impact on the business.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement.

We are looking for

A colleague with a talent for taking it on and making it happen, enthusiasm for helping others to be successful and a knack for always being a step ahead. You embrace challenges in a fast changing and complex environment, you love to challenge the status quo, and you come with solutions rather than problems. You are a naturally collaborative person who listens and invests in others to achieve common goals. In terms of the skillset, you will need:

  • Consulting Background: Minimum of 5 years experience in a top-tier management consulting firm, with a proven track record in strategy, transformation, and financial services engagements. On top of previous experience in the broader financial services eco-system, a good understanding of Wholesale/Corporate Banking is a clear plus.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strong ability to structure complex problems, develop actionable strategies, and translate vision into execution.
  • Analytical Rigor: Highly proficient in data analysis and synthesis, with the ability to derive insights from complex datasets and drive data-informed decision-making.
  • Stakeholder Management: Skilled in engaging and influencing senior stakeholders across functions and geographies, with excellent communication and presentation capabilities.
  • Project Leadership: Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional initiatives, managing ambiguity, and delivering results under tight timelines. Ability to work independently and prioritise appropriately.
  • Change Management: Deep understanding of organisational dynamics and change levers, with the ability to drive adoption and cultural shifts.
  • Digital & Commercial Acumen: Familiarity with digital transformation programs, CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce), and commercial excellence frameworks.
  • People Leadership: Experience in managing and developing teams, fostering a high-performance culture, and coaching for growth.

We offer you

  • The opportunity to drive the business strategy and acquire in-depth knowledge of Wholesale Banking, with a steep learning curve
  • A varied and exciting role, with the opportunity to tailor it to your own strengths and interests over time
  • Ample occasions to grow your network and build visibility with senior stakeholders across ING
  • A position reporting directly to the Head of Wholesale Banking BeLux, and functionally reporting to the Head of Transformation EMEA, which will be graded GJA 19 or 20 according to your experience and qualifications
  • An attractive remuneration package, including the possibility to work from home for 50% of your time
