The Mission

The Business Control Specialist engages and enables the Head of a business or support function to deliver on its 1LoD accountabilities of creating optimal design, execution, and monitoring of all relevant Non-Financial Risk and/or Compliance requirements and enhancing risk culture for the domain.

Your day to day

The role is defined as a ‘Business Controls Specialist’ within ODCR (Operational, Design, Control and resilience) with main focus on Non-Financial Risk (NFR) activities.

The above translates to the following (non-exclusive) responsibilities:

  • Enable (via training, upskilling and hand-holding) local business/risk owners in applying risk judgment and in the execution of risk assessment process; 
  • Drive the creation of a risk assessment planning (with risk owners, process leads and ODCR Hub) and align with Control Hub on Risk Assessment support;
  • Drive the E2E issue and event management process​ via providing guidance to the local Issue/Event Owners on initiating the process towards ODCR HUBs - Issue and Event Management Team;
  • Create local First Line Monitoring plan (key controls) in alignment with global continuous planning and monitor the execution of it;
  • Enable Management Team to ensure optimal control and resilience within the entity, following ING Risk Appetite, through (but not limited to): safeguarding data quality, planning, reporting, monitoring of the overdue issues, participating in risk score discussions (by leading the Non-Financial Risk Dashboard – NFRD, from the 1st LoD perspective);
  • Act as BCM Coordinator, making sure that all Business Continuity activities are performed (e.g. Business Continuity documentation is annually reviewed, updated, BC plans are tested, and results are reported etc.);
  • Act as 1st Line of Defence for Compliance making sure that all Compliance activities are performed (e.g. gap analysis for controls, reporting, data quality etc.).

What you’ll bring to the team

  • University degree;
  • Preferably 1-3 years of relevant experience in functions dealing with internal controls (e.g. Business Control, External/Internal Audit, Operational Risk Management, Compliance risk management);
  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills who is able to operate in a diversified and multicultural work environment;
  • Good collaboration skills and ability to work across different business lines and geographies;
  • Strong and effective communication skills – fluent in written and spoken English;
  • Flexibility to work simultaneously on more than one topic and variety of activities;
  • Strong administration and organizational skills.
