Relationship Manager - Financial Institutions Sector Coverage

ING Bank NV – Milan Branch, is searching for a talented Junior VP to work within the Wholesale Banking Financial Institutions Sector Coverage team in Milan.

Financial Institutions Sector Coverage (“FI”) is a global team covering ING’s largest financial institutions by income and exposure.

The Relationship Manager is responsible for the overall business relationship with designated Italian banks and non-banks financial institutions, as well as leading banks in Greece, Malta and Cyprus. 

The Relationship Manager will be working in a dynamic client-facing team of highly dedicated professionals which are part of a “virtual” platform with teams located worldwide, including Amsterdam. The role involves regular contacts with clients as well as frequent cooperation with internal departments such as Financial Markets, Capital Markets and Advisory, FI Lending, Risk Management, Compliance, etc.

Key responsibilities:

The primary responsibility is to manage the relationship with designated Financial Institutions, coordinating across products and geographies to explore and maximise cross-buy opportunities. This involves leading the relationship dialogue and regular coordination with financial markets, payments and cash management, trade finance services, Capital Markets and Advisory, fund finance and other teams across the ING network.

In the FI sector team your job is diverse, with your main tasks consisting of:

  • Identify clients’ critical business issues and business opportunities based on a good understanding of the client, their business, the sector and ING products, using an integrated approach

  • Define the FI strategy in close coordination with the Head of FI, the business partners and in line with the strategy of the Bank.

  • Drafting of the internal committee form for the commercial approval of the limits

  • Drafting the Relationship Manager’s advice, including client relationship history, revenues streams and business objectives

  • Assist the Head of FI in the Know Your Customer (“KYC”) process (Including Customer Due Diligence, FATCA, CRS, etc.)

  • Collaborate with several stakeholders on KYC related tasks with the aim of being fully KYC compliant on all covered clients – continuous surveillance on expired and soon to be expired cases; off-board clients no longer in line with our bank strategy

  • Ensure proper data quality within IT systems (including limit allocation, exposures as well as legal structure are correctly reflected in Vantage)

  • Assist the Head of FI in drafting presentations to Senior Management and clients.

  • Prepare - in conjunction with Legal and FI Lending departments - lending term sheets and lead the initial term sheet negotiation

  • Originate product-integrated solutions pitches to clients, in close cooperation with product specialists

  • Swiftly act on client requests by directing them to the relevant party.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for a pro-active professional with a strong professional drive, professional ambition and international mindset. He/she can operate in a highly demanding environment, dealing with pressure and performing under tight deadlines. He/She has a strong commercial drive and excellent communication skills. The following are the key requirements:

  • Ambitious professional with Bachelor’s or Master’s degree

  • Highly collaborative personality, strong team player, and able to communicate effectively with clients, ING teams and senior management.

  • Self-starter with can-do attitude who can work with a high degree of autonomy and is keen to take on responsibility.

  • Strong commercial drive and persistency

  • Strong customer focus and entrepreneurial thinking

  • Good representative of the team, both internally and externally

  • Understanding of and adherence to compliance related approach

  • High level of financial and analytical skills

  • Product and industry knowledge and well-founded know-how in the capital market business

  • Problem solving aptitude

  • Able to manage multiple engagements and shifting priorities

  • Creativity and ability to innovate / think out of the box

  • Proactivity, energy and enthusiasm. Able to make things happen, both internally and in transaction executions

  • Fluency in Italian and English, both spoken and written

Work experience

  • Previous experience (min 10 years) in a comparable role within the banking sector focused on Financial Institutions clients and/or with one or more relevant banking products for Financial Institutions (e. g. Transaction Services, Capital Markets, Financial Markets, Lending)
