ING Australia’s Enterprise Tribe delivers technology solutions and operational support across several major ING functions, including Regulatory Risk, Finance, Lending Operations, Wholesale Banking, and HR. It is responsible for driving change initiatives as well as ensuring stable day‑to‑day system performance across these domains.

In the role of Chapter Lead, you will oversee a group of engineers and development testers, define best practices for the full‑stack Chapter, and lead the growth, innovation, and knowledge development within the operational area. You will balance continuous service delivery for customers by guiding your team toward achieving personal development goals and broader organizational objectives.


As a senior member of the engineering and testing community, you will contribute to enhancing ING’s engineering standards, evaluate emerging industry trends, and introduce global best practices into the organization. Collaboration with other Chapter Leads will be key to ensuring alignment where beneficial, while also recognizing when specialized or domain‑specific approaches are needed.

What you’ll do …

  • Lead engineers and testers across the Enterprise Tribe, ensuring engineering excellence, strong solution design, and adherence to ING’s architectural and engineering standards.

  • Drive automation‑focused engineering and testing practices, building teams that improve efficiency, reliability, and speed through modern tools and frameworks.

  • Contribute across the full software development lifecycle—from ideation and design to delivery and ongoing support of production‑ready solutions.

  • Apply modern testing approaches to ensure high‑quality, secure, and consistently working software, while continuously optimising the end‑to‑end testing strategy.

  • Maintain a healthy, secure, and well‑documented IT environment, ensuring systems remain operational, compliant, and aligned with ING’s agile way of working.

  • Champion security‑by‑design and defense‑in‑depth principles, solving complex security challenges and embedding strong security controls into engineering and testing practices.

What we’re looking for…

  • Handson proficiency in Java, .NET, microservices, automation, and modern testing/automation frameworks.

  • Over 5 years leading complex software delivery and driving technical direction in Agile environments.

  • Deep knowledge of Agile at scale, DevOps/Continuous Delivery, and ITIL, with the ability to embed best practices across teams.

  • Strong decisionmaker with the capability to provide clear technical leadership in uncertain or evolving situations.

  • Engages in continuous learning through meetups, opensource contributions, blogging, and collaboration with global/offshore teams.
