In Asia Pacific, ING offers wholesale banking across 11 markets, namely Australia, China, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam.

Singapore is the regional headquarters for ING's Wholesale Banking (WB) business in Asia, which includes all WB business lines such as Financial Markets, Strategic Products, Sectors, Lending and Transaction Services and other support functions.

What would you be doing?

The companies we cover in Tokyo are active in Energy sector including developers of renewable energy and battery projects, utilities, energy companies and energy departments of Japanese trading houses.

As an intern, you will be a member of multiple deal teams involved in transactions where you, for example, finance solar, wind, battery, Ammonia, CCS, and LNG-to-power projects or corporate engaging in energy trading companies. You work most closely together with team members in Singapore but we also have Energy professionals in Amsterdam, London, Paris, Madrid, Brussels, Milan, Sydney, and New York.

As an Intern your job will be diverse, but your main tasks consist of the below:

1. Market & Sector Research

  • Compile recent trends in renewable energy (solar, wind, battery storage) in Japan and key international markets.

  • Track policy and regulatory updates impacting project finance and energy trading in Japan.

  • Monitor price developments in Japan’s power and balancing markets.

2. Client & Deal Support

  • Prepare client pitch materials and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Gather public financial data on prospective clients and projects.

  • Analize financial and project information for deal origination.

  • Support preliminary credit analysis of financial statements.

3. Transaction Origination Assistance

  • Help draft term sheets for financing such as project finance, corporate finance, and guarantees.

  • Collect and organize project documentation (technical specifications, permits, land rights, project documents).

  • Assist in debt sizing, analyze different transaction structures, and prepare business comparables.

4. Risk & Compliance Support

  • Review KYC documentation for new clients under supervision.

  • Assist in compiling ESG information and support internal processes.

5. Internal Documentation

  • Prepare team introduction and performance materials.

  • Support creation of internal documents required for business operations.

What qualities and skills are we looking for?

We are looking for a passionate individual who meets the following criteria: 

Qualifications:

  • A major in Business, Accountancy, or Economics is preferred; however, candidates from other academic backgrounds are also welcome to apply.

  • Prior experience in banking (wholesale or commercial) is highly valued but not required.

Skills & competencies:

  • Proficiency in both English and Japanese (fluency in both languages is preferred).

  • Strong command of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Proactive, diligent, and capable of working independently while being a strong team player.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage tight deadlines.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to thrive in a multicultural team environment.

  • An interest and curiosity for the Energy Sector and a high-level understanding of Japan energy landscape.

This is a six month full time Internship position starting from March 2026.
