The SRE Centre of Expertise (CoE) enables system reliability, performance, and IT service excellence. 


Reporting to the Head of SRE CoE the SRE Tools – Area Lead oversees a team managing a unified ecosystem that includes observability (metrics, tracing and logs) and ITSM tools (incident, problem and change management). 


This role is responsible for setting vision, driving priorities, ensuring service quality and aligning IT strategy with ING’s global direction. It also defines observability standards and owns tool selection, operational and lifecycle management. Working closely with stakeholders across Technology and SRE teams, this role helps improve the overall Tech tools experience.

What you’ll do …

  • Drive incident, problem, change and capacity management to ensure system reliability and availability 

  • Improve system performance, monitoring, and production stability in collaboration with Tribes 

  • Lead automation and continuous delivery practices to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency 

  • Ensure security, risk compliance, and adherence to Group standards 

  • Define and implement SRE strategy, roadmap, and technology direction 

  • Coach teams and promote knowledge sharing, best practices, and continuous improvement 

What we’re looking for….

  • Hands-on experience with automation, performance, and capacity management 

  • Strong experience in observability tooling. 

  • Solid understanding of infrastructure and enterprise technologies (cloud, networking, databases, J2EE/.NET, JavaScript) 

  • Proven track record working in large engineering teams and delivering at scale (preferably in banking/finance) 

  • Excellent people management and stakeholder management skills with a self-driven mindset.
