A day in the life of an SRE Chapter Lead

As team lead in the SRE department of Tech BE you grow a high performing team of SRE experts, driving Tech BE to peak resilience against adverse events, to structurally increase availability of critical banking services to 99,9%.

  • You lead the team from daily coordination to hiring and performance management
  • You are the single point of contact in Tech BE on resilience by design
  • You and your team contribute and align on Global SRE resilience practices and projects
  • Responsible for the delivery of resilience improvement projects with your team and colleagues in Tech BE and ING Group
  • Responsible for IT resilience risk processes such as Well Architected Reviews, Conformity of systems, …

SRE leads engineers by example, meaning you’ll need

  • Proficient software/system engineering skills
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Ambition and drive to impact 2000 engineers, a complex landscape and processes
  • Knowledge on resilience patterns and policy by design
  • Experience in cloud native API services
  • Capable in delivering continuous improvement projects

As a chapter lead, you will have the opportunity to:

The team

The SRE BE department reports to the CIO and drives reliability for all ING Belgium critical business services (incl top sales and servicing journeys). Each of the six teams in SRE works closely together yet focus on a specific practice. The Resilience by Design team makes the IT landscape stronger to maintain availability of service even during adverse events.

Activities range from performing well architected reviews, embedding policies by design in our platforms in collaboration with Tech Engineering & Reliability on Group level, guiding devops teams to apply best practices, leading projects to embed resilience (for example: making applications more cloud native), keeping the API landscape standardised and in guardrails…

The team consists of varied experts in different fields including solution architecture, development and system engineering.
