The team

A newly established Sustainability team within the WB COO domain contributes to ING’s global sustainability strategy, which is at the core of what we do and how we do it. Our main purpose is to become net-zero well before 2050. We achieve this by implementing the most effective methodology to assess and improve our core banking operations processes through sustainability, as well as creating a knowledge-sharing platform across the world to ensure we share best practices and learn from each other to accelerate our contribution to planet Earth. Our interns are key players in designing and implementing our COO sustainability strategy both locally and globally.

Internship Opportunity: COO Sustainability

Currently, there is an opportunity for a six-month internship within our team, supporting the activities of Sustainability in operations. We focus on applying climate action to our banking operations processes. The team also contributes to ING’s own environmental footprint reduction programme by accelerating prioritization and actions in the countries.

The internship is on a full-time basis, with flexibility to ensure students are meeting ongoing study requirements.


Roles and responsibilities

  • Support in the collection and analysis of environmental footprint data.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement in our CO2 footprint.
  • Engage colleagues to improve our environmental footprint, including through campaigns.
  • Support the integration of climate action objectives into COO Banking operations.
  • Manage and develop the internal COO Sustainability Intranet community and support other countries in developing their own communities. Work closely with communications to share news internally through the community.
  • Provide administrative support to Green Guild meetings (functional domain which consists of country representatives across the globe), various events, meetings, calls, reporting, project coordination activities, and project reporting.

  • Master or Bachelor (third-year bachelor) student with strong skills in Data Analysis, and a high interest in Sustainability / Sustainable Development, Communication.
  • A genuine interest in environmental issues.
  • Strong organizational/project management skills.
  • Problem analysis and judgment.
  • Attention to detail (accuracy).
  • Ability to work in an international environment.
  • High ambition/energy level.
  • Teamwork.
  • Perseverance (flexible hours).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in business English is required
  • Able to work in Amsterdam.
  • Ability to work under pressure without losing your sense of humor
