Role & work environment

Within Finance Business Advice, the team is the cornerstone for financial insights and advice for Wholesale Banking in Belgium. The Wholesale segment provides a wide range of financial services and products to support our corporate and institutional clients, which range from Payment & Cash Management services (PCM), lending to financial markets and advisory. The finance business advisor is a pro-active partner empowering the client-facing teams with valuable information and advice on both strategic and day-to-day themes, like for example financially navigating our business colleagues through the current changing interest rate environment and what the impact of structural high inflation will be on the business performance.

You will join a young and dynamic team that provides regular reporting and advice to senior management in both Belgium and The Netherlands, while also maintaining relationships with various other internal stakeholders. Your role is to help the team engage with the respective product- and sector leads on what the business environment means financially and how they can act accordingly. You will help the team to be the financial compass of the Wholesale bank! This will put you in the passenger seat for the forecasting process and for providing ad-hoc support, sometimes on business cases for new or existing products or services. In addition to supporting the finance business advisors in their day-to-day work, which will enable you to gain an in-depth understanding of a bank's business in the wholesale banking sector, you will be responsible for initiatives thought up by the team to improve product profitability, processes and the accuracy of management information.

Key responsibilities

Carrying out exciting initiatives specifically designed to challenge you

  • Making a success of strategic projects by providing financial advice to significantly improve the performance of the Wholesale bank

Provide financial result presentations, analyses and advice to relevant stakeholders

  • Ensure high quality, first-time right deliverables
  • Actively develop relationships with business stakeholders and the finance department and act as a trusted provider of information and advice
  • Proactively look for ways to improve the content and format, keeping it relevant in the current fast-changing environment

Be involved in the overall budgeting and forecasting process

  • Together with the team providing accurate forward-looking financial plans for a broad range of products
  • Play a role in challenging on the financial developments happening in the Wholesale bank

Play an active role in the FBA department

  • Work on overarching projects which cover the full bank
  • Actively work and think along in the team to look for possible efficiencies in our processes and to improve business-relevant insights

We look for:

  • A master's degree in economics, finance or equivalent
  • An analytical mind and intellectual curiosity that you combine with a sincere interest in banking and market developments
  • A proactive and autonomous attitude that translates into flexibility when deadlines are due
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a (business) control or management accounting position is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English
  • Advanced PowerPoint and Excel skills
  • Experience in translating data analysis into sound advice that you’ll be able to combine with providing independent strategic advice to senior management
