The Mission

Financial Markets (FM) is the Bank’s gateway to the professional markets around the world. Our primary function is to service the needs of ING’s clients with products, services and guidance. FM aims to be a significant player in our market leader and challenger markets, with an additional presence in all the major international markets and specialist expertise in selected emerging markets and products.

Within FM, in Competitive Pricing area, we have ING Pricing Architecture (IPA) asset, which consists of multiple components that enable real-time and batch calculations of financial risk metrics and simulations (e.g. XVA,PFE, Value at Risk, Expected Shortfall, Bilateral Margining, pre-deal derivatives Pricing) which are driven by new banking regulations as well as advanced Risk analysis on the derivative product portfolio of Financial Markets (interest rates, credits, foreign exchange). This asset is in the heart of the IT landscape for our global dealing rooms and risk managers in Asia, Europe and Americas, with aprox. 30 scrum teams spread across 4 locations (Amsterdam, Brussels, Bucharest and Singapore), cooperating to evolve it towards target ING Financial Markets IT vision.

Your day to day

Even if you’ll start your day from the comfort of your home or drink your morning coffee in our office’s garden, your day will be quite similar when comes to tasks. The following will be the main responsibilities of the role:

  • Continuous deployment and delivery using Azure DevOps

  • Implement the security policy so that the system is secure at operating system, database and application server level (this includes also regular patching of the entire environment suite Dev, Test, Acceptance, Production)

  • Configure and implement appropriate Monitoring Tooling using the correct and agreed event alerts

  • Perform High Availability and Disaster Recovery tests with support from other IT teams

  • IT Risk & security controls need to be put in place and accurately documented, for this you will need to get familiar and keep up to date with the ING Information Security Management Policy

  • Specify, design, test and deploy the runtime scripts (e.g. stop / start / purge / backup / deploy / rollback)

  • Implement and work with the latest tooling with a strong focus on performance, stability and security

  • Perform Functional testing and Change Management activities in order to ensure the safe deliveries from Test, to Acceptance and to Production environment

  • Find opportunities to automate the testing of existing features, performance and security as well as the automation of deployments, monitoring, and more. This is a key responsibility of the Operations Engineers

  • Perform incident and problem management activities, including root cause analysis to determine the actual failure cause and implement structural fixes. You communicate directly with users (Traders, Credit/Market Risk Managers) on this from Amsterdam, London, Brussels, New York and Singapore

What you’ll bring to the team

  • Experience: 3+ years of software engineering / operations experience

  • Tech stack/ knowledge:

    • Mandatory:

      • Advanced knowledge on Windows OS administration

      • Advanced knowledge on MS SQL Server administration

      • Advanced knowledge on CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps preferably)

      • Proven experience with configuration management tools (Ansible knowledge representing a plus)

      • Proficiency in any scripting language for automation and system administration, preferably Python and Powershell

      • Experience with implementing, managing and troubleshooting PKI solutions, including SSL/TLS certificates, certificate authorities, and key management practices

      • Knowledge of Java runtime environments, including application configuration, deployment, log analysis and troubleshooting represents a plus (no development experience is required)

      • Linux OS administration knowledge is a plus (RedHat Enterprise Linux preferably)

      • Good spoken and written English skills, with the ability to clearly communicate technical concepts

      • Good understanding of best practices regarding monitoring and logging tools (e.g. Grafana, Prometheus and the Elastic Stack)

      • Understanding of containerization technologies such as Docker, including container management, networking, and security best practices. Familiarity with container orchestration tools like Kubernetes or OpenShift is a plus.

      • A customer focus, with the mindset to find and resolve root causes of incidents to structurally improve the customer experience.

      • IT Operations/Support experience combined with analytical skills to identify root causes in workflows incidents (technical)

      • Familiarity with tools like ServiceNow, Confluence, Fortify

      • Experience or affinity with IT Risk (SOx, vulnerability management) and Security concepts (protocols, certificates, etc.)

      • A good team player, cross functional, enjoys interacting with people of all levels in a multicultural environment

      • Proactive and attentive to other’s needs

    • Nice to have:

      • Experience with managing full-stack vendor packages, and additionally (low latency) infrastructural stack knowledge

  • Foreign languages: English (advanced)

  • Education: Education at Bachelor/Master level with a strong analytical background, in Computer Science, Cybernetics, Software Engineering, Financial Engineering or equivalent
