Chapter Lead

Apply now

Across ING we are embarking on a new chapter in our digital products, moving towards a more experimental and customer centered approach that leverages all of the strengths and history of our group companies, while delivering real value to millions of clients across the world.

You will be part of the Murex platform team in the Hedging IT Area, which is part of the Financial Markets and Group Treasury tribe (FM>). The Chapter Lead is a senior role in the tribe. You are responsible for a chapter of Murex engineers, and -together with 4 other Murex Chapter leads- responsible for the Global Murex team. You continuously improve the working practices of the Global Murex team, while providing a positive and safe environment for our people to learn from their mistakes and from each other.

As a Chapter Lead, you lead by example. The Chapter Lead role takes +/- 40% of your time. The other 60% you are contributing to the backlog of the Murex team as a senior Murex engineer.

    The team

The FM> tribe is part of Wholesale Banking. Wholesale Banking is serving corporate clients and financial institutions in over 40 countries. You will work in a dynamic and challenging IT environment. We operate according to the Scrum Agile development process with regular milestones, so that we get early feedback, and the business gets what they need. We use top notch in-house engineered solutions and market-leading vendor applications. These systems need to be running virtually 24/7. If they aren’t, our business will shut down. Therefore, the quality of our work must be high. The Global Murex team consist of 6 DevOps teams (+/- 40 engineers). Our teams are currently distributed across The Netherlands, Singapore, and India. This will likely change over time as we get better at working across company locations. You will join the Murex Platform team as a Senior Murex engineer. You will join the Management Team of the Hedging IT Area. The Management team consist of Murex-, Calypso-, Summit-, and BOTS Chapter Leads. The size of the Hedging area is +/- 180 engineers. The role is based in the ING headquarters in Amsterdam. ING works in hybrid mode, which means you will work approximately 50% at home, and 50% in the office. There is a lot of freedom to choose where you work; all that matters is that you deliver.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

You will have a broad set of responsibilities, and while it would be great if you have some experience with all of these, we will consider candidates with the right foundation who need support and coaching in some of these areas. If you’ve never managed a team before, we can teach that. If you don’t have Murex experience, that will be more of a challenge and this role probably isn’t right for you.

    • As a Murex Chapter Lead, you are responsible for the Global Murex team, together with 4 other Murex Chapter leads. This covers amongst other the strategy for the Murex team / system, vendor management, system stability, IT Security, and Financials.
    • As a Chapter Lead, you are responsible for the hiring, coaching, growth, and evaluation of the engineers in your chapter. You are responsible for staff hierarchically in The Netherlands, and functionally across the globe.
    • You are the IT Custodian of Murex. This means that you are a.o.  responsible for Lifecycle Management and IT Security of the Murex system.
    • Your team is end-to-end responsible for the changes you deliver: analysis, design, development, and support (you build it, you own it! 😊). You can work on a variety of initiatives, with a focus on reliability improvements such as monitoring & alerting, security, lifecycle management, and automation.
    • Your team is also responsible for (technical) production support. Murex is used 24 X 5 by entities around the globe (Europe, Asia, and USA).
    • You are the Product Owner of the Testing squad. This squad works on test automation, executes the regression test for the bi-weekly release, and delivers Murex upgrades. You are in charge of coordination and you’re in contact with other teams and Business Stakeholders to deliver Murex upgrades.
    • You will be exposed to various demanding stakeholders and third-party applications, thus providing opportunities for professional- and personal development while putting to good use the knowledge and experience you have accumulated so far.

    How to Succeed:

    • 5+ years of Murex work experience in Front Office and Technical Support.
    • You have a positive, can-do attitude. You think in solutions.
    • You have a technical background. Ideally, you have spent a large part of your career writing software, and leading software engineering teams.
      • Hands-on knowledge of SQL
      • Hands-on knowledge of Linux and scripting (Bash, Perl, Python).
      • Thorough understanding of (test) automation, continuous delivery, deployment tools, and pipelines
    • You understand the power of truly cross-functional teams and can work alongside engineers, senior managers, and colleagues from different disciplines, to create a common goal and get the most out of all the expertise at the table.
    • You’re a quick learner and have good analytical skills.
    • You are humble, yet confident. You have seen enough to have a toolkit you can refer to when things aren’t working, and can help others understand that there may be a different perspective or way of thinking about things, that helps them move forward.
