The opportunity

This is a great opportunity for lawyers with an interest in financial markets who are willing to work in close proximity with ING’s global financial markets business on complex transactions in an international, dynamic and inspiring environment. We have a position available for an enthusiastic and ambitious legal counsel willing to join our Legal Financial Markets team based in Amsterdam.

The team

You will become part of an experienced and supportive team of 10 professionals based in Amsterdam who work closely with the legal financial markets teams in Brussels, London, Paris, Singapore and New York. The Legal Financial Markets team forms part of the Legal Wholesale Banking department in Amsterdam which consists of approximately 55 lawyers.

Roles and responsibilities

The Legal Financial Markets team provides tailored and sustainable legal solutions by being a partner in business while mitigating potential legal, regulatory and reputational risks for ING and keeping the bank safe and secure. Our works consists among others of:

  • drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of (bespoke) financial markets contracts (e.g. the ISDA Master Agreement, transaction confirmations) for the products offered by the global Financial Markets division of ING (e.g. derivatives, repos, securities lending and structured products);
  • advising on hedging transactions in relation to loans for which ING acts as a lender;
  • keeping track of regulatory developments relevant for Financial Markets products and documentation (EMIR, Benchmarks Regulation, ESG);
  • providing legal support on financial markets’ products and services and guide our stakeholders through their daily legal challenges; and
  • actively contributing to (regulatory) change projects.

  • You are interested in financial markets products (derivatives, repos, securities lending) and have or are willing to gain in depth documentation and product knowledge;
  • You have an LL.M degree (or equivalent) in law;
  • You have at least 3+ years working experience with a law firm, regulatory authority or financial institution;
  • You are a great team player with a positive and can do mentality who is not afraid to take responsibility. You are able to understand business needs and able to take responsibility for, and prioritise, the workload without extensive supervision; and
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
