Make a Real-World Impact in Credit Risk

Are you a hands-on credit risk professional who thrives on working closely with the business? Do you enjoy translating complex regulations into practical policies that drive sustainable growth? If so, we’d love to meet you.

At ING, we’re looking for a Senior Credit Risk Expert to join our Credit Risk Management team. In this role, you’ll help shape the policies and frameworks that guide our lending decisions across Business Banking and Wholesale Banking. You’ll work at the intersection of risk, regulation, and real-world business needs—making a tangible impact every day.

Your Tribe

We’re a diverse and enthusiastic team of 76 professionals, organized into four chapters:

- Credit Risk Management Business Banking, Private Banking and Wholesale Banking

- Credit Risk Analytics

- Credit Risk Management Private Individuals

- Regional Restructuring Unit

Together, we manage credit risk across ING Netherlands’ lending portfolios. We set risk appetite, develop and maintain policies, and monitor portfolio performance using data-driven insights. We work closely with business stakeholders to ensure our frameworks are not only compliant—but also commercially sound and future-ready.

Role and responsibilities

As a Senior Credit Risk Expert, you’ll be at the heart of ING’s credit risk strategy—working closely with business teams to shape decisions and drive sustainable growth. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Partnering with the business — collaborating with front-office teams, credit decision-makers, and group functions to embed risk thinking into everyday decisions and support better outcomes.

  • Assessing new initiatives — evaluating risk appetite for new products or strategies, ensuring a balanced approach that supports innovation while maintaining control.

  • Monitoring portfolio performance — using forward-looking, data-driven insights to identify trends, flag emerging risks, and recommend proactive actions.

  • Driving the risk appetite framework — setting clear boundaries, cascading metrics to operational teams, and ensuring they’re effectively applied across the organization.

  • Translating regulatory changes into action — turning complex requirements into clear, implementable policies and process improvements.

  • Owning and evolving credit risk policies — keeping them up to date, practical, and aligned with both regulatory requirements and business realities.

  • Acting as a second line of defense — ensuring ING remains in control of credit risks while enabling responsible growth.

How to succeed

You’re not just a policy expert—you’re a business partner. You bring a practical mindset, strong communication skills, and a passion for making credit risk management smarter, faster, and more effective.

You bring:

  • 7+ years of experience in credit risk within Business or Wholesale Banking, gained through roles such as policy development, policy implementation in business processes (e.g. within Tribe Business Lending), front-office deal-making (first line of defense), or second-line credit approval.

  • A strong understanding of business lending products and sectors—experience in a front-office or client-facing role is a big plus.

  • Familiarity with the Dutch market, regulatory landscape, and organizational context is a strong advantage and will help you be effective from day one

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills—you know how to align risk and reward with business goals.

  • Experience with credit risk regulations and how they impact day-to-day operations.

  • A track record of driving change—whether through policy updates, process improvements, or cross-functional projects.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to turn insights into action.

  • Fluency in English (Dutch is a plus).

  • A collaborative, proactive, and impact-driven mindset

You’re someone who values continuous learning, thrives in a fast-changing environment, and takes pride in translating regulatory complexity into practical business impact. You naturally align with ING’s values and bring them to life in your daily work. Furthermore, you should adhere to the ING values and it is evident for you that your behavior is fully aligned with these values. For more information, please visit
