Senior Regulatory Risk Manager - Prudential Engagements

ING Australia is seeking a Senior Regulatory Risk Manager to lead our Prudential Engagements within the Regulatory Risk team.

The Senior Regulatory Risk Manager, Prudential Engagements is a strategic role responsible for the bank’s regulatory engagements with APRA and RBA and leading the coordination of the Bank’s response to regulatory reviews, inquiries, assessments, regulatory change and related projects.

This high impact role is vital to maintain a trusted and transparent relationship with our regulators and shapes the Bank’s regulatory engagement strategy. You will report to the Head of Regulatory Risk and work with senior leadership and stakeholders across the bank to ensure the quality and timeliness of responses to prudential engagements and support in the identification and management of regulatory risks and opportunities.

What you’ll do

  • Play a critical role in leading the management of the APRA and RBA engagements and steer the regulatory engagement strategy
  • Partner with Executive Management and SMEs to Work with tribes and SMEs and act as trusted advisor on prudential reviews, providing oversight, facilitating escalation of issues, and ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations
  • Monitor regulatory priorities and initiatives and monitor delivery against regulatory commitments
  • Provide expert advice on prudential regulation and act as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders to ensure that regulatory expectations are met and risk is optimally managed in our approach
  • Coordinate participation and have a leading voice in regulatory forums and industry working groups for regulatory matters
  • Feed into the bank’s strategic planning and influence strategic direction on prudential regulatory matter
  • Build internal stakeholder awareness and organise briefing sessions on regulatory environment, expectations and changes, including participation in industry consultation
  • Consistently stay ahead of regulatory and legislative changes that impacts the Bank and its relationship with regulators, co-ordinate business impact assessments and work with the relevant subject matter experts/business owners to ensure effective implementation (or lobbying/response submissions).

What we’re looking for

  • Minimum 10 – 12 years practical experience in a compliance, regulatory, governance and/or legal function in the financial services industry
  • Degree qualified in Australian law, commerce, or related discipline preferred
  • Extensive leadership experience dealing with regulators in Financial Services or may have worked in the capacity of regulator
  • Experience within Regulatory Affairs, Legal or Compliance with a comprehensive understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and industry codes applicable to the financial services sector
  • Agile way of working and excellent project management skills
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills to influence outcomes and align priorities
  • Ability to analyse and interpret ambiguous and complex regulations quickly and overlay these with business propositions and initiatives (product, process, technology) will prove critical to success
  • Ability to identify and pursue solutions with a continuous improvement and learning mindset
  • Understanding of the business drivers and the strategic direction of the Bank and the role of Risk Management in achieving those objectives
  • Awareness of current industry threats, trends, risks and opportunities that potentially impact the Bank
