Role & work environment

As part of the strengthening of its Tech security & Infrastructure Department, ING Luxembourg is offering a contractual internship starting from August 2026 for a minimum period of 6 months.

Please note that we only consider students who are currently enrolled in a university or higher education institution and are able to provide a valid internship agreement (school convention).

The Infrastructure & Cybersecurity team is responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, resilience, and security of the Bank’s IT infrastructure. The team manages network services, connectivity, cloud and on-premises infrastructure components, cybersecurity controls, and operational monitoring to support business-critical banking services.

Working within a dynamic and international environment, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in enterprise network technologies, IT operations, cybersecurity practices, infrastructure automation, and project delivery while collaborating with experienced engineers and architects.

You will report hierarchically to the Network & Infrastructure Lead and work closely with Infrastructure Engineers, Network Engineers, Security Specialists, and Project Managers across the organization.

Key responsibilities

As an Cybersecurity & Network Intern, you will actively contribute to the daily operations and strategic initiatives of the team while developing practical skills in enterprise IT environments.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting in the monitoring and maintenance of network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, and internet connectivity services;

  • Supporting the administration of network and security technologies such as firewalls, VPNs, switches, and load balancers;

  • Participating in cybersecurity initiatives, including vulnerability management, security monitoring, access management, and compliance reviews;

  • Contributing to infrastructure projects involving cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments;

  • Helping maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, operational procedures, and inventories;

  • Assisting in the analysis and resolution of incidents and service requests;

  • Supporting capacity planning, performance analysis, and infrastructure optimization activities;

  • Participating in testing, validation, and deployment activities during infrastructure changes and upgrades;

  • Contributing to the development of dashboards, reports, and operational metrics;

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams and external providers to ensure service continuity and security;

  • Supporting automation and continuous improvement initiatives when applicable;

  • Any other associated duties are required from time to time to meet the team's objectives and targets.

What You Will Learn

  • Enterprise networking technologies (Routing, Switching, DNS, DHCP, VPN);

  • Network security concepts and cybersecurity best practices;

  • Cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments;

  • Infrastructure monitoring and observability platforms;

  • IT Service Management (ITIL) processes;

  • Infrastructure project management and Agile ways of working;

  • Regulatory and security compliance requirements applicable to the banking sector.

As an Infrastructure, Network & Cybersecurity Intern, you will also need:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Network Engineering, or a related field;

  • Strong interest in IT infrastructure, networking, and cybersecurity;

  • Basic understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, Routing, Switching, DNS, and VPN technologies;

  • Basic knowledge of operating systems (Windows and/or Linux);

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, scripting, automation, or cybersecurity concepts would be considered an asset;

  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills;

  • Good organization and attention to detail;

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively;

  • Strong communication skills;

  • Fluent in written and spoken English; French is considered an advantage;

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
