The team that you will be joining is a multidisciplinary and cross-functional team with end-to-end responsibility for Global Data Centres Services and the delivery of these services to ING’s business. You will work closely together with the other teams within ING.

As Data Centre Specialist you are a member of the Global Data Centres Services department. This department contains four teams. (Operations 1 - OPS1, Operations 2 - OPS2, Hardware as a Service - HaaS and Centre of Excellence - CoE). OPS1 is responsible for all hard services within the ING Global Data Centres. Such as maintaining and developing the Data Centre cooling and electrical grid. HaaS is responsible for receiving, storing, delivery and decommissioning of all IT infrastructure within the Data Centres. CoE is responsible for advising, risk control, auditing specialised on Data Centres.

The team:

You will work in the team of OPS2. OPS2 is responsible for all activities within the white space and warehouse of the ING Data Centres. These activities include managing the overall capacity for power, cooling and rack space for optimal Data Centre usage and scalability. Responsible for the physical access and security to all data halls. To supervise and coordinate physical IMACD activities (Install, Move, Add Change or Decommissioning of ICT infrastructure) and check the work performed. Install and maintaining the Power Distribution Units in the data halls. Managing applications such as a Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) application and lock management. OPS2 includes a development team to optimize and automate our processes and applications via a Data Centre Portal.

Roles and responsibilities

As Data Centre Specialist you are responsible for designing, coordinating and maintaining the physical infrastructure of our global high available Data Centres. Working closely with our stakeholders to realize the needs of their continuously changing IT landscape. Design and optimize data centre architectures, considering factors such as network connectivity, power distribution, cooling capacity/density, security, and scalability. Create and manage a capacity management map and define design boundaries.

You will be working with multiple applications for Data Centre management where you give input and deliver optimized are responsible for continuous improvement.  

You continuously strive to improve yourself and your colleagues. You have a broad and diverse set of competencies that allow you to operate, between various teams, and that allows you to build a network. You help others to be successful and remain a step ahead. You have creative problem-solving skills, you will be expected to come up with solutions to problems at hand, opposed to waiting for orders.

To be considered for this position you must be knowledgeable about managing Data Centres white space, cabling, power principles, capacity planning and installations.

  • Directing and project management mind set with strong communication skills.
  • Proven technical knowledge in Structured cabling system, implementation and troubleshooting/problem solving.
  • Good knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in data centre operations.
  • Both team player as independent and autonomous.
  • You are energetic, enthusiastic, & eager to learn.
  • You take it on and make it happen.
  • You have an end-to-end ownership mindset.
  • Networking skills are a pre.

Your education and background

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, preferably electro technical or ICT.
  • 5+ years of experience working in data centres environment with an emphasis on design, installation, and capacity planning.
  • Certificates such as CDCS, CTDC or equivalent.
  • Good understanding of and experience with data centre technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch and good communication skills in English both written and verbal.

Other information

  • The location is Rotterdam, and you are willing to travel to other ING locations when needed.
  • You do not mind participating in stand-by.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours.
